IMPORTANT NOTICE: The High Point Democrats Strategic Planning Team is postponing the precinct leadership training event previously scheduled for this Saturday, June 6, to early September.

In the meantime, we have a plan in place to address the needs of our new precinct leaders. More details to come.

Dear High Point Democratic friends,

As many of you know, a number of us Democrats and firefighters with their families attended a budget hearing on May 18th to speak on behalf of the great need for a separation allowance for our firefighters here in High Point.

A separation allowance is basically a gap pay until eligibility for Social Security.
I'm saddened to say that we have firefighters with cancer who will not make their 30 years and need that separation allowance to help their families get by until retirement Social Security is available to them. It is a basic benefit that our HP police officers already receive.

The City Manager's budget hearing that followed the May 18th meeting did not acknowledge the critical need for separation allowance.

There is a meeting on Monday June 1st at 5:30pm at City Hall and I'm pleading for you to come and attend.

If you're willing to speak, we'll have some talking points for you. Please let me know in advance if you're willing to do that.

We need to show up in great numbers. It'll take no more than an hour of your time. If you have royal blue please wear it in solidarity with the firefighters union

Please, please try to attend! We need to have people there to show our City Council that we as voters know how important this is for our firefighters to be taken care of as they, the firefighters, take care of us.

On Tuesday, June 2, you can hear from High Point Mayor and candidate for US House of Representatives Cyril Jefferson at the China Grove, Landis, and Bradshaw precinct meeting!

Cyril is running to represent North Carolina's 6th district, which includes all of Rowan, Davidson, and Davie counties, and parts of Guilford, Cabarrus, and Forsyth counties.
