OCTOBER 24 - WORLD POLIO DAY - Both the Rotary Club of High Point and Rotary International have been on the front lines of battling polio and bringing hope for the future. Some some interesting history below...let's continue this legacy!

• IRON LUNG FUNDRAISER (1941): During early polio outbreaks, the High Point Rotary Club joined national efforts by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis (March of Dimes) and raised funds to purchase High Point’s first iron lung (an early mechanical respirator). It was one of only four such devices in North Carolina at the time.

• LOCAL EPIDEMIC SUPPORT: During severe outbreaks—such as the historic North Carolina epidemic of 1948, when Guilford County was heavily impacted—the club and local community groups provided critical relief and support for patients and families

A good weekly Rotary meeting today and an excellent program by ESP (Extra Special People / High Point) as they shared about the work they do to "...create transformative experiences for people with disabilities and their families, changing communities for the better."

We also had a Rotarian, Hazem Tahssin, visit our Club. His home Club is in Alexandria, Egypt, and he is in town for Furniture Market.

We also had Glen White from Gate City Rotary visit our Club meeting and share in the experience.

Thanks everyone for the great day!

The 68th Annual BBQ is "in the books", as they say, and a huge thank you to many folks...

• To those who came out yesterday and today to volunteer and help make it a success

• To those who came today to dine in or takeout and bought tickets to enjoy the BBQ

• To our amazing musicians throughout the day

• To all who donated fabulous desserts

• To First Presbyterian for sharing their space with us

• To the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Wesley 100 Men's Group who helped cook and serve

• To Ken Esposito and his amazing BBQ Committee and their great work

• And to all our sponsors for their financial support

A great Rotary day! Thanks everyone.

They left me unsupervised at the dessert table at our BBQ Fundraiser. It wasn't my fault. Jeff Benfield

Just heard from Ken Esposito (BBQ Chairperson) that the BBQ has arrived so he will be at First Presbyterian (918 North Main Street) from 2PM - 4PM today (Thursday) to start setting up for tomorrow's BBQ. If you are available to help, your presence is very much welcomed!

Thanks,
