Its Water Safety Month! Today's Tip? Designate a Water Watcher! ๐Ÿ‘€

A water watcher is an adult whose only job is to actively supervise. That means no phones, no conversations, no distractions. Just focused attention.

Drowning happens quickly and silently. A Water Watcher helps ensure there is always a responsible adult watching the water, especially at pools, lakes, beaches, and even in bathtubs.

๐ŸŸข Choose one adult at a time.
๐ŸŸข Rotate every 15โ€“30 minutes to stay alert.
๐ŸŸข Keep young children within armโ€™s reach.

More rain is on the way today! In the last 24 hours, we have received just under one inch of rain, according to our FSWN High Springs Fire Weatherstem weather station.

โ˜”Beneficial rainfall continues across SE GA and NE FL into tonight. Embedded thunderstorms will move through mainly along and south of 1-10 through the day. Highest rainfall will likely be along the NE FL coast. A strong storm will be possible in north-central FL this afternoon.

Drowning doesnโ€™t look like drowning.

In TV and movies, drowning is often shown as being loud with splashing, yelling, and waving for help. In real life, itโ€™s usually very different. Drowning is fast. Itโ€™s silent. There may be no splashing. No yelling. No waving.

It can happen in seconds, even when an adult is nearby. Thatโ€™s why active, constant supervision is so important.

Designate a water watcher and stay within armโ€™s reach of young children around water. Stay off your phone, eliminate distractions, and create layers of protection to help prevent tragedy.

5/11/26 8:40AM

Yes, we see it too. A thick haze of smoke has settled over the city in the last 30 minutes, likely caused by the several wildfires in the region.

There are NO active fires in High Springs right now.
