We were incredibly excited to welcome U.S. Representative Becca Balint and Vermont Secretary of State Copeland Hanzas to Highgate Elementary as part of our Kid Governor program!

Our students led the conversation, asking thoughtful questions about what their jobs look like on a daily and weekly basis, sharing their Kid Governor platforms and community concerns, and even swapping recommendations about what books everyone is reading!

It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to connect with state and federal leaders, practice civic engagement, and see that their voices truly matter.

What a great visit—and what a proud moment for our Highgate Hawks!

Strong partnerships between home and school continue to be one of the greatest predictors of student success. One important opportunity to begin building that partnership is through our Parent/Family-Teacher Conferences, which will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 12:00–8:00 p.m. We strongly encourage every family to participate. These conferences provide valuable time to meet your child's teacher, establish goals for the year, and begin the year with open communication and shared expectations. A licensed Special Educator
OR
A licensed K–6 teacher interested in providing targeted academic support to students.

We are also seeking a Custodian for 2nd Shift!

If you're passionate about helping children learn, grow, and thrive in a collaborative, student-centered school, we'd love to hear from you!

We're also always looking for substitute staff.
