As announced by Chief Watson at the Town Board meeting held last Thursday, Lt. Kevin Phillips, after decades of dedicated service to our community, will be retiring at the end of July.

This will be the end of an era for Woodbury, between Kevin and his brother Mickey who retired last year from our water department, our community has had a Phillips involved in our day-to-day operations for over thirty years. On behalf of Mayor Andrew Giacomazza and your Village Board we wish Kevin Phillips all the best as he begins the next chapter in his life.

With the "retirement" of Tom Deluca from our Planning Board, an opening was created that needed to be filled. Please join us in welcoming the newest member of our Planning Board, Patrick Holloran. Patrick has big shoes to fill but we have faith he is up to the task. Thank you, Patrick!

UPDATE - Showing a primary is down. Crew isn't there yet but will be dispatched.

We have a power outage in Woodbury affecting about 65 or so residents. A supervisor from O & R has been dispatched to check the issue. It doesn't look like a "big" problem, maybe a fuse. Once the supervisor determines the issue, a crew will be dispatched.

This is also affecting water service in the area. As part of a bond we took last year, a generator is to be installIed for water service in the area. The generator is in but Surbaban has not installed the tanks to date. I have alerted O & R to the fact that residents are without water and power and they are prioritizing service repairs.

I will update with any information as I receive.

In observance of Juneteenth, all Village offices and departments are closed today.

“Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory or an acceptance of the way things are. It’s a celebration of progress. It’s an affirmation that despite the most painful parts of our history, change is possible—and there is still so much work to do.” — Barack Obama See less

It was on June 14, 1777, that John Adams spoke about the flag at a meeting of the Continental Congress in Philadelphia. He said, “Resolved, that the flag of the thirteen United States shall be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the Union be thirteen stars, white on a blue field, representing a new constellation.“

Since its inception, there’ve been twenty-seven official versions of the flag of the United States of America. Stars have been added to the flag as states have entered the Union and the current version of the American flag actually dates back to July 4, 1960, when Hawaii became the 50th state.

While Flag Day is not an official federal holiday, it is a nationally recognized day. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation which officially established June 14th as Flag Day, but it wasn’t until August 3rd, 1949 that President Truman signed an Act of Congress. That Act of Congress permanently designated June 14th of each year to be recognized as National Flag Day. (Pictured below - Oak Clove)
