Pets are family, and having a plan for their care can be an important part of preparing for the unexpected.

A detention, housing crisis, domestic violence situation, or other emergency can leave someone unable to return home or care for their pet. Planning ahead can help ensure that a trusted person knows how to care for your pet and has the information they need.

Our new guide offers practical steps for protecting your pets if you are unexpectedly separated from them, with particular consideration for immigrant families and others facing uncertain circumstances.

Thank you to Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter in Riverwoods, IL for helping us create this resource and for the important work you do to save animals and help individuals and families.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today at the Patty Turner Center for Voices of Justice. We appreciated the thoughtful conversation about how policy and socio-economic factors are affecting housing stability and access to legal services in our communities. These conversations give us an opportunity to share more about NSLAC’s work and today, more specifically about our Housing Law Practice and the issues facing our clients.

A very special thank you to our partner, West Deerfield Township, for helping make today’s conversation possible.

There is one more Voices of Justice conversation in the series this September, focused on NSLAC’s Domestic Violence Law Program. We hope you’ll join us.

Even without visible enforcement activity, many immigrant neighbors are living with ongoing fear and uncertainty. That emotional toll is real and constant. If you want to support, it starts with understanding, respect, and small, consistent actions. The steps matter, and so does how we show up.

Swipe through for simple ways to be a thoughtful and effective ally.

North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic is excited to share that we continue to be a part of a state-wide program in Illinois, the Immigrant Legal Support Program (ILSP) lead by The Resurrection Project and the IDHS.

ILSP holds regular workshops to immigrants in Illinois. At our workshops, you are able to speak directly with an attorney about your immigration case and receive advice. In addition, we hold weekly Know Your Rights presentations, Orientations on What to Expect at Your ICE/ISAP Check-Ins and Safety Planning Workshops, where we are providing Short Term Guardianship and Letters of Power of Attorney for Finances for individuals who fear they will be detained by ICE.

If you think you or someone you know can benefit from any of these services, please sign up for an appointment at our local Hanover Park or Palatine locations:

https://lnkd.in/gvPj9e3P

Please note that although members of North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic will be present, we are not agreeing to any further representation outside of those services provided at the workshop unless previously agreed upon.

Having a lawyer can make a critical difference for people facing immigration court and possible deportation.

This Associated Press story highlights a volunteer program helping people navigate immigration court when they cannot afford an attorney. Illinois does not have this specific program, but free, trusted immigration legal help is available through North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic for eligible people in Lake County and northern Cook County at North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic.

If you or someone you know needs immigration legal assistance, NSLAC may be able to help. Call us at 847 737 4042.

NSLAC appreciated the opportunity to be part of the D59 Back to School Event at Oasis Mobile Home Park in Des Plaines before the rain rolled in.

More than 500 parents and students came out, and children received backpacks and school supplies to help them get ready for the new school year. We were happy to spend the afternoon connecting with families and sharing information about the legal resources available to them.
