Concerns are growing over significant delays in the renewal of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) applications, leaving many Dreamers in legal limbo.

DACA recipients (young people who came to the United States as children), must renew their status and work authorization every two years. Increasing processing delays are causing uncertainty for hundreds of thousands of individuals who live, work, study, and contribute to communities across the country.

These delays can have serious consequences, including interruptions in employment, education, and financial stability. At NSLAC, we recognize the vital role Dreamers play in our communities and remain committed to advocating for fair and timely access to immigration benefits.

The backlog of renewal cases for DACA recipients awaiting processing at USCIS has increased dramatically, and approvals have ground to a halt.

Have questions about the recent USCIS announcement regarding adjustment of status and green card applications?

You're not alone. We know many immigrants and their families are concerned about what these changes could mean for them.

Our Immigration Law Practice Team has created easy-to-understand resources in English and Spanish that explain what has changed, what has not changed, and why it is important not to make immigration decisions based solely on headlines or social media.

Proposed changes announced this week by the federal government would significantly increase the cost of applying for U.S. citizenship and eliminate fee waivers and reductions that have helped make the naturalization process more accessible for many low-income immigrants.

At North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic, we believe that cost should not be a barrier to pursuing citizenship. For many eligible immigrants, becoming a U.S. citizen provides greater stability, security, and opportunities for themselves and their families. Increased financial hurdles may place this important goal out of reach for many.

The proposed rule is subject to a public comment period before any changes take effect.

Naturalization fees would sharply rise as DHS ends reduced fees and waivers for most applicants.

Everyone in the United States has rights, regardless of immigration status.

You have the right to remain silent, speak with an attorney, and refuse entry without a judicial warrant signed by a judge. Never sign documents you do not understand. Be aware of immigration scams and seek help from trusted legal providers.
