North Suburban Legal Aid We provide accessible, quality pro-bono legal services in the areas of immigration, domestic violence, and housing.

Parking is available on site and at nearby municipal lots. The Clinic is accessible by public transportation. The North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic is a community initiative that offers access to justice in the areas of domestic abuse, immigration and housing to people in suburban Cook County and throughout Lake County.

The Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee will host this inaugural event to commemorate Pro Bono Week and recognize the commitment of local pro bono volunteers. Their special guest speaker for the event will be Illinois Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth M. Rochford.

This event will be held at the Lake County Courthouse in the seating area west of jury assembly on the second floor of the tower off the bridge to the classic courthouse. Domestic Violence Awareness Month is almost here.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month ( ), a time for survivors, victim advocates, allies, loved ones, and communities to come together to remember those whose lives have been lost to domestic violence, raise awareness, and work toward ending abuse.

At North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic (NSLAC), our attorneys provide survivors of domestic violence with free legal representation, compassionate support, and advocacy to help them navigate the legal system and safely move toward independence.

While NSLAC provides free, accessible, and equitable legal help throughout the year, we are also taking additional steps during DVAM to educate our community, raise awareness about domestic violence, and connect survivors and allies with resources.

NSLAC was honored to attend the Highland Park Community Foundation’s Gather for Good 2026 event. We are grateful to be a recipient of an HPCF grant and appreciate the Foundation’s continued commitment to supporting nonprofits that make a difference in the lives of Highland Park and Highwood residents.

With a record 73 grant applications representing 81 programs this year, the need for community support has never been greater. We are thankful to HPCF and everyone who makes this investment in local organizations possible.

TRAVEL WARNING FOR NON CITIZENS

NSLAC is urging non citizens to exercise extreme caution with travel. Recent federal actions have expanded data sharing between the Transportation Security Administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, including the routine transfer of airline passenger lists. This applies to domestic air travel as well as international trips.

Due to increased scrutiny and extreme vetting, non citizens should avoid international travel, even short trips to Canada, Mexico, or U.S. territories. Re entry is not guaranteed, even with valid documents. Individuals may also face enforcement actions during domestic air travel.

This warning applies to green card holders, DACA recipients, visa holders, asylum seekers, and anyone with a pending immigration case.

Notario fraud happens when someone who is not an immigration attorney or a Department of Justice Accredited Representative pretends they can give you legal advice or help with your immigration case. They often call themselves “Notarios,” “Preparers,” “Consultants,” or “Immigration Legal Advisors” but these titles do not mean they are legally authorized to help you.

Only licensed attorneys and DOJ Accredited Representatives can provide immigration legal advice. If someone promises an easy path to legal status or a work permit, they are lying. Protect yourself by verifying who you work with and never signing or paying for anything you do not fully understand.

Join us for the 4th Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Conference on October 1, 2026, at College of Lake County’s Grayslake Campus.

This conference brings together sexual and domestic violence service providers, advocates, professionals, and College of Lake County staff and students for a day of learning, collaboration, and practical insight from experienced professionals in the field.

Topics will include criminal protective orders, the collaborative roles of police social workers, victim specialists and advocates, and visas for victims of violent crimes. Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in roundtable discussions and presentations.

Today, North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic joined nonprofit leaders from across the region for the 2026 Impact Network Workshop Series, sponsored and hosted by First Bank Chicago at its Northbrook location.

The morning brought together nonprofit organizations for thoughtful conversation about leadership, organizational sustainability, and strategies that help nonprofits remain strong and responsive to the communities they serve.

For NSLAC, building a strong and sustainable organization is essential to our work providing free legal aid to residents across Lake County and north suburban Cook County. We value opportunities to learn from our nonprofit peers, exchange ideas and build relationships that strengthen the entire nonprofit community.
