Residents,

We would like to provide advance notice of an upcoming sewer inspection project scheduled to begin on or around August 10, 2026, with a tentative completion date of September 12, 2026.

As part of this project, the City’s contractor will be performing closed-circuit television (CCTV) inspections and light sewer cleaning at various locations within boundaries of South of McNichols street, West of Woodward avenue , East of Third avenue, and North of Bartlett Street. The purpose of this work is to assess the existing condition of the sewer system; document observed defects or maintenance needs and support the City’s ongoing evaluation and planning for future sewer improvements.

Public notices has been distributed to those of you within the project areas. The notice provides you with information regarding the upcoming work and potential temporary impacts associated with the inspection and cleaning activities.

If you receive any questions or concerns related to the project, particularly regarding water or sewer service issues, please reach out to the Water Department so that the team can promptly coordinate with the contractor and address the concern.

IMPORTANT PUBLIC NOTICE: Free N95 Masks Available for Highland Park Residents

Attention Citizens of Highland Park,

Due to ongoing Canadian wildfire smoke, poor air quality and hazy conditions are predicted to persist in our area until Saturday.

To help protect your health and safety, the City of Highland Park is distributing free N95 masks to residents. You can pick up masks at the following locations while supplies last:

🚨 The City of Highland Park is encouraging residents to take precautions as wildfire smoke impacts air quality across Southeast Michigan.

An Air Quality Alert has been issued by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) due to elevated fine particulate matter (PM2.5) from Canadian wildfire smoke.

If possible:
✔️ Limit prolonged outdoor activity.
✔️ Keep windows closed.
✔️ Run your air conditioning on recirculate.
✔️ Check on family members, neighbors, and friends who may be more vulnerable to poor air quality.

As we continue to face an incoming severe heatwave this week, our top priority is the safety and well-being of every resident in our community. With temperatures expected to climb to a dangerous 97 degrees tomorrow, Wednesday, July 15, we are taking immediate action to protect our city, and we need you to take precautions as well.

We strongly advise all of our residents to prepare now. Please secure adequate hydration supplies, inspect your home fans and air conditioning units to ensure they are working properly, and limit your time outdoors during peak heat hours. We also ask that you look out for one another—please check in on your neighbors, especially seniors, families with young children, and those who may be vulnerable to extreme heat.

To help our community navigate this weather safely, we are implementing the following emergency response measures:

Early Closure of Highland Park City Hall

Due to the predicted extreme heat, we will be closing Highland Park City Hall on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 1 pm.

Our Operations: Physical administrative offices will be closed tomorrow. We expect to resume normal operations on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

Water Bill Payments: Please note that even though City Hall is temporarily closed, you can still make payments to our Water Department online. Our online payment portal will remain fully operational during the closure.

We urge everyone to take this heatwave seriously. Please stay indoors, drink plenty of water, and stay cool. If you or someone you know is experiencing a heat-related medical emergency, please dial 911 immediately.

We are in this together, and we will continue to work diligently to keep Highland Park safe, hydrated, and cool.

Due to the anticipated Heat Advisory forecasted for Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Highland Park Music Series: Hip Hop Edition has been postponed.

The safety of our community, artists, and staff is our top priority. We understand that high temperatures can be dangerous and believe it to be in everyone’s best interest to postpone an outdoor event.

We are hosting a free water distribution today, Monday, July 13, 2026, at the Highland Park Justice Center.

Where to find us: We will be operating at the rear entrance on Tyler Street. The Highland Park Justice Center is located at 13233 Hamilton, Highland Park, MI.

Hours of operation: We will be distributing water from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

What to bring: Please bring a form of identification with you to receive supplies.

2. Cooling Centers

To ensure everyone has a safe, cool place to escape the heat, we will be operating two designated Cooling Centers. We invite any citizen seeking relief from the extreme temperatures to utilize these air-conditioned spaces. Please check our official City website at highlandparkmi.gov for further updates
