Hi Folks,
Is anyone interested in putting together a presentation or panel for the Michigan Environmental Justice Summit? Deadline to submit proposals is September 6th. The Summit itself is going virtual and will last for 6 weeks from mid Sept to Oct 31.
There are plenty of things to mention about HP: Lead in the water, Illegal Dumping of solid waste, Consent agreement with GLWA that requires all water mains to be replaced before our water plant can be restored, Power outages…
Out panel at the Energy Sustainability and Tech Fair went very well. You can check out the zoom recordings here.
Anyone interested in putting a panel together can reply all. I am willing to participate but do not have the bandwidth to organize a presentation.

Hey Y'all,
As some of you know, the Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition hosts the statewide environmental justice summit every two years. This event brings together hundreds of frontline activists and allies to share stories and strategies for achieving a safer, cleaner, more vibrant future. It would have been a fantastic year for us considering this marks the 30th Anniversary since the first EJ summit in Michigan!
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the summit will be held in a digital space this year. However, this does not change our goal to create an accessible space for the Michigan EJ community to connect. Over several weeks, the summit will take place, kicking off September 14th, 2020, and closing out October 31st,2020. Please be sure to register to stay updated on all things regarding the summit.
MEJC is genuinely excited about each of the tracks that are being offered to participants this year. There will be a total of four, and they are listed and explained below.
1. Healing and Culture - Sessions related to dealing with stress, grief, and loss, searching for joy welcome, exploring the cultural roots around Black Lives Matter and EJ Movements.
2. Campaign Action - People have had enough and demand transition to clean energy solutions, better-funded school systems, community-centered public safety models, access to quality health care as we battle COVID-19, and much more.
3. Know your History - Understanding how to get involved and make a change within the community around EJ issues. This track also consists of understanding the past and how it impacts today.
4. Climate Justice- Climate Justice is the vision for the future of survival and thriving communities free of toxins and terror. Through this work, we can transform our extractive economy into a regenerative economy.
MEJC also welcomes session proposals for any of the four tracks listed above. If you or your acquaintances might be interested in running a session, please feel free to submit your request here. We have extended our proposal deadline to September 6th, 2020!
We are looking forward to providing a space for our EJ family to reconnect and (re)claim our wins!
