I always tell my sons: "start with thank you!"

Thank you for your trust, your support, and your encouragement. This Election Day was about us as a community, what we stand for and where we are headed. I appreciated the many campaign opportunities to talk with friends (old and new), hearing about your ideas, your concerns, and your vision for Highland Park. Your input is always valued.

As we transition to a new City Council composition, I ask that you join me in thanking Councilmember Michelle DeMars Holleman for her nine years of Council service to our community. We wish her all the best in her next chapter. Her voice and views have been thoughtful and appreciated. Join me also in thanking Councilmember Adam Stolberg for his six years of Council service. Adam’s professional and civic experience along with his steady and fair voice on City matters have been valued significantly.

And we thank Sustainability Advisory Group Chair Kelly Nichols for running for City Council. Her campaign talked about her fresh perspective, her experience as a small business owner, and her hopes for future generations in our city. We appreciate her time, energy and hard work, focusing on the resiliency of our community.

Our team at City Hall will hit the ground running. I look forward to continuing our work on behalf of our community with our dedicated, professional City staff and my City Council colleagues: Tony Blumberg, Kim Stone, Annette Lidawer, Andres Tapia and our newest members Jeff Hoobler and Yumi Ross. Knowing that working collaboratively benefits the public and improves efficiencies, we will continue to work closely with our sister governments, community groups, stakeholders and partners.

Our priorities of public safety, fiscal responsibility, infrastructure investment and enhancing our quality of life through business development efforts, preserving our history, supporting human services, environmental sustainability initiatives, and the arts will continue to be front and center. We are deeply committed to meeting the needs of our community both now and for the future.

It's official! I have filed to run for re-election on April 4, 2023. It is one of my deepest honors to serve our great community as Mayor. Through our work together, we have focused on fiscal stability, public safety, infrastructure investment and community vibrancy. I am proud that throughout my administration, the City has maintained a Aaa bond rating, the highest rating available and a leading indicator of strong, responsible financial management possessed by only a handful of Illinois cities.

I am running for re-election to continue providing effective leadership at City Hall and impactful results for residents and businesses. I am also running to ensure consistent, compassionate leadership as our community navigates the aftermath of the horrific mass shooting in July. While this one event will not define us, it is our decisions followed by our actions that illustrate who we are and what we stand for as a community.

Every year, the local interfaith clergy group, Religious Leaders United, hosts an Interfaith Thanksgiving Service on the Sunday before Thanksgiving and Deerfield Mayor Harriet Rosenthal and I are honored to join.

This year, due to the COVID pandemic the service will be virtual, held on Zoom. The service will be on Sunday, November 22nd at 3:00 p.m. on Zoom.
This is a wonderful service with participation from the many faith communities in our area. It also features beautiful music. I invite you to attend this beautiful and moving service.
