Meet Red!

A Rhodesian Ridgeback-Labrador mix pup, estimated to be between 1 and 3 years old, looking for his forever home. He is the sweetest boy, but he will need some help coming out of his shell. He arrived at the shelter about a month ago and has been struggling with finding his confidence after being picked up on the street.

With a little bit of patience, reassurance, and love from the right owners, he should make a very loyal companion. He has never shown aggression toward humans or other animals, but may be best suited for an only-dog home. He has not yet been neutered, and his adoption fees are waived.

If you are looking for a new buddy, Red might be the perfect fit. Contact Wes at (469) 444-0915 to schedule a visit. Highland Village Animal Shelter

On the evening of May 12, 2026, Highland Village Police responded to the 600 block of Highland Meadows after a resident reported a suspicious person in dark clothing looking around driveways. Officers located evidence connected to a possible vehicle burglary, and Ring camera footage provided by the resident helped officers quickly recognize the suspect from an earlier call that evening.

While HVPD and Flower Mound PD drone operators searched the area, another resident reported a person running between houses before getting into a white SUV. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled the city at a high rate of speed and was later found abandoned near I-35 in Lewisville.

Thanks to the strong partnership between HVPD and our residents, officers were able to positively identify the suspect. Chief Reim and the entire department want to thank our community for continuing to report suspicious activity. Calls from alert residents — along with the assistance of Flower Mound PD and Lewisville PD — were critical in helping stop what could have been ongoing criminal activity.

Freddy is a 10-month-old Labrador-Shepherd mix weighing about 50 lbs. He arrived at the shelter with his brother Chucky, and the two loved playing and spending time together. Since Chucky was adopted, Freddy has struggled with his confidence and misses his companion.

Despite this, Freddy is still a young pup with so much love to give. With patience and reassurance, he will blossom back into his playful, happy self again.

Freddy gets along well with other dogs and cats, making him a great fit for many homes. He is fully vetted, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and ready to leave the shelter today.

If you’re ready to give Freddy the loving home he deserves, contact Wes at 469-444-0915. https://tx-highlandvillage.civicplus.com/795/Adopt-a-Shelter-Pet

Shout out to the Denton Area Running Club- DARC Dog Runners for their continued support, amazing volunteer work, and for providing these videos of Freddy.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Police Officers Memorial Day and the week in which the 15th falls as National Police Week. During National Police Week, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of the men and women who serve and protect our communities every day. We remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty and stand beside the families and officers who carry on their legacy. At HVPD, we started the week by honoring Sgt. Dennis Oliver at the 30th Annual Denton County Fallen Officers Memorial. Officers from HVPD attended the ceremony where Officer Beckett was chosen to honor Sgt. Oliver by placing a rose in the memorial wreath. Please take a moment to remember those who have paid the ultimate price and thank those officers that continue to serve our communities. Respect. Honor. Remember.
