HVFD does not conduct monthly testing when there is a threat/chance of inclement weather or if it is overcast, as we do not want to alarm our citizens and have them think there is an actual severe weather incident.

Our sirens are tested daily by a computer “polling” process which tells us if there is an issue or if a siren is not in working order. Additionally, each Wednesday, a “growler” test is conducted which lets us know that the sound mechanism is working.

As the name implies, this system is designed for people that are outdoors and should only be used as a supplemental warning tool for individuals.

The City of Highland Village offers severe weather alerts through a mass notification program. Sign up to be notified of City news, services, events, and emergencies at https://www.highlandvillage.org/1000/Stay-Notified

Look for widespread shower and thunderstorm development in the afternoon and evening. A few of which are capable of producing very large hail, damaging winds, and even a tornado or two will be possible.

Flash flooding may result locally if storm motion is slower over any particular area.

Stay weather aware

A cold front and dryline will bring a chance of thunderstorms today and tonight, some of which may be severe. The highest severe weather threat will likely be this afternoon and evening for areas near and east of I-35.
