Highland Police Department

Highland Police Department The Highland Police Department practices community policing in this small village of 842. Chief of Police Daniel Swinehart is the lead hunter safety instructor.

Chief of Police Daniel Swinehart along with Officer Michael Havlik and Officer Ryan Kumor and reserve Officer Brent Harris make up the police department. We practice community policing with some of the events we sponsor listed here. He is assisted by four volunteer instructors with various skills and knowledge that enjoy teaching hunter safety. The department is also involved with bike safety at t

he Highland Elementary School. We teach basic bike riding skills from grades k to 4th. Each year the department sponsors a bike ride from the Village of Barneveld to the Village of Mound Horeb. We take the 5th grade class on a 18 mile bike ride on the Military Ridge State Bike trail to promote exercise and bike riding and making the right decisions in life. The DARE program is taught to 5th graders. Iowa County Sheriff's office administers the DARE Program that the police department supports. The 5th graders will learn about drugs, alcohol, and violence and how important it is to make good decisions. After graduating from the program the kids will understand that there are other alternatives than drugs, alcohol and violence. For example bike riding, skiing, swimming, and hunting. With the Highland Police Department page we reserve the right to delete or hide from public view any submissions, post or messages which contain:
Vulgar language, whether implied or otherwise stated; including graphic, obscene, explicit, racist or sexist comments. Personal attacks of any kind. Abusive, hateful or slanderous comments, whether implied or otherwise stated, regarding any person, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, organization or nation. Spam. Comments that suggest, endorse or encourage illegal activity. Promotion, solicitation or advertisement of particular services, product or political organizations. Infringement of copyrights or trademarks. Personally identifiable or sensitive information, including medical information.

MAY 27, 2026 ended another year of bike safety for the Highland Elementary kids. We took the 5th graders on our annual DARE bike ride. KIDS did great again. Shout out to DARE OFFICER/DEPUTY MICHAEL HAVLIK for coming to the park and sending us off. He was not able to ride this year, but he was able to make a couple appearances.

Some great people here.

Some great people here.

It’s EMS week! Giving a HUGE SHOUTOUT to our wonderful group here in Highland. We appreciate each and every one of you that make up our team.

We have many ‘seasoned’ professionals as well as a super group of newbies that are jumping right in every chance they get and always looking to add more to our group!

Highland EMS was started back in 1972 with 13 members taking the class. We have had many members since that time-your dedication and time volunteered for your community is a wonderful reminder that GREAT THINGS HAPPEN when we all work together for good of the community. ♥️

A LITTLE SHOUT OUT TO OUR STREET CREW. On Tuesday April 14, 2026, the village's street crew was out hard at work cleaning up the debris from the early morning storm. Kennedy Street and Delaney Street both were completely closed for 4 hours due to trees across the road. The street crew did an amazing job cleaning the trees up in less than an hour, opening up both streets. The Highland Police Department would like to thank the street department for getting the streets cleaned up after noticing the streets were blocked off.

We did make contact with several residents regarding the damage. If you do have damage on your residence, and were not contacted by the Highland Police Department or the Iowa County Emergency Management Team, please contact the police department. The residents that could be affected by the early Tuesday morning storms would be on East Circle Drive, Cardinal Drive, Industrial Drive, Valley Street, East Dodgeville Street, Delaney Street, and Kennedy Street. Please contact the Highland Police Department with any questions: 608 574-4615.

🌟 Making Iowa County Safer—One Drop Box at a Time

Iowa County is expanding access to safe medication disposal with multiple drug drop box locations now available.

This initiative was made possible by the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office securing a grant to fund the project.

Current locations include:

• Mineral Point Police Department – 1020 Ridge St (Mon–Fri, 8 AM–2 PM or by appointment)

• Highland Village Office – 530 Main St (during office hours or by contacting PD)

• Village of Barneveld – 403 CR-ID (business hours or by appointment after hours)

• Iowa County Sheriff’s Office – 109 E Leffler St (available 24/7)

🚧 Coming Soon:

• Ridgeway Village Hall – 208 Jarvis St

• Village of Avoca – 401 Wisconsin St

Properly disposing of unused or unwanted medications helps prevent misuse and protects our community and environment. Hopefully in the future we can secure more funding to have one in each community that wants one.

Please share to help spread the word!
