Mayor Bills recently presented Highland Heroes Awards to several community members in recognition of their outstanding volunteer service bettering Highland!

Brent and Sue Wallace were honored for neighborhood trail maintenance and Brent’s work as Highland’s Code Compliance Officer.

Brandon Balkman was recognized for building Brandon’s Trail and the disc golf course at Beacon Hills Park.

Kristoffer Pagel was honored for his efforts at Highland Glen Park, including coordinating with Parks staff and Lone Peak Police on park maintenance and safety needs, as well as assisting with the recent rescue of the park’s remaining domestic ducks in partnership with Wasatch Wanderers Animal Rescue.

We’re grateful for the time and dedication these residents have given to our community. Thank you for helping make Highland a wonderful place to live, work, and serve!🏆👏

With school starting back up again soon, check out these important e-bike state law updates and reminders from Lone Peak Police- Utah.

REMINDER ABOUT EBIKES AND ESCOOTERS!! With school starting soon we want to remind students and parents of the new laws surrounding ebikes and escooters. Contact your child's school for their specific policies and restrictions.

Utah lawmakers are trying to curb the e-bike injury trend with new legislation that updates the laws around e-bikes. Bicycles are considered vehicles, meaning riders must follow vehicle laws, including obeying traffic signals, signs, and road markings.

Under the new legislation:

-No one under age 8 can ride any e-bike on a public road.
-Starting May 6, all e-bike and e-scooter riders under 21 must wear CPSC helmets on roads, and e-motorcycles under 21 must use DOT-approved helmets.
-Devices that travel over 20 miles per hour without pedaling are considered e-motorcycles and require a driver's license and motorcycle endorsement.
-Those under 16 may not operate e-motorcycles or high-powered e-devices on any public road.It is illegal to operate any e-device impaired, or to alter one from its original design.
-Starting May 5, 2027, riders ages 8 to 15 must have direct supervision or a Department of Public Safety personal electric vehicle safety certificate.
-Riders ages 16 and older may ride on public roads without supervision.

We encourage residents to attend tonight’s public hearing and final budget adoption. It will be held at City Hall at 6pm and will include the City Council's decision on the proposed adjustment to the dedicated library property tax.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE FOR TOMORROW 🚧

The City will be seal coating the following roads tomorrow to extend road life and improve surface quality. To keep disruptions to a minimum, crews will implement a rolling closure as work progresses.

Closure Schedule:
• 6000 West (between SR-92 & 11800 North): 6:00 AM – 11:00 AM
• 9600 North (Alpine Highway to 6800 West): 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Seal coating allows us to complete necessary maintenance with much shorter closures than full reconstruction. Please plan your travel accordingly and expect brief delays in these areas.

Great news! The City is adding sidewalk, along with curb and gutter, on the southwest corner of Strasburg Park at 6000 West and 10400 North. No road closures will take place during the work as it is a shoulder project. Construction will take place through the week of August 10. Please use caution when driving through the area.
