Little Pups Pre-Kindergarten, Copper Mesa Elementary School

Little Pups Pre-Kindergarten, Copper Mesa Elementary School Our Little Pups Full Day Pre-Kindergarten program utilizes the best of world class learning opportunities that the Douglas County School District offers.

02/21/2025

The Douglas County School District will be CLOSED on Friday, February 21 due to inclement weather conditions. We recognize that temperatures will warm up later today. However, Douglas County and Jefferson County received the brunt of this storm. There is currently up to a foot of snow accumulation in some areas of Douglas County with more snow expected over the next few hours. This means that even with a delay, we would not be able to get school parking lots cleared in time for the start of school. In addition, road conditions are currently very slick. As always, in the event of a closure, all DCSD buildings are closed.

- Preschool, elementary, middle school and high school classes are cancelled
- BASE programs are closed
- Classes at the Bridge Program, D.C. Oakes, Eagle Academy, eDCSD and Plum Creek Academy are cancelled
- All activities, events, sports and facility rentals are cancelled

If your child attends a DCSD charter school, we encourage you to check in with your school.

Our snow team will continue to monitor the storm. We will provide any updates on our website and social media.

02/13/2025

The Douglas County School District will be on a 90-MINUTE DELAY on Thursday, February 13, due to low temperatures and wind chills forecasted for the early morning hours. A delay will allow more time for temperatures to rise so that students and staff are not at risk of frostbite while walking to school, waiting for the bus, or manning carlines. In addition, this will help us ensure our buses and buildings are warm and comfortable for students and staff.

A 90-MINUTE DELAY means that schools and buses are delayed by an hour and a half.

EXAMPLE: If your bus normally picks up at 7:05 a.m. it will now pick up at 8:35 a.m.

- BASE (before school) programs will open at 8:00 a.m.
- Morning preschool classes are canceled.
- If your child attends a DCSD high school, please check with your school for the delayed start bell schedule.
- Classes at Eagle Academy will begin at the normal time.
- If your child attends a DCSD charter school, please check in with your school for any weather delays or closures.

As always, we respect the decision of our parents to keep their children home, if needed - this will be an excused absence. If you choose to do so, please notify your child’s school.

Safety is a top priority and our snow team will continue to monitor the storm and road conditions. We will provide any updates on our website and social media.

The Douglas County School District will be on a 90-MINUTE DELAY on Tuesday, January 21, due to forecasted low temperatures in the morning. The windchill is expected to be well below zero at daybreak tomorrow. In that environment, frostbite is a very real risk for any exposed skin. A delay will give temperatures a chance to rise so that we don’t have kids waiting at bus stops and walking to school, or staff outside manning car lines during the cold early morning hours. Thankfully, temperatures are forecasted to warm up during the day with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s.

While the sun is shining at the moment, many forecasts show another band of snow coming our way. This upcoming storm is expected to be even worse than what we’ve seen over the past couple of days. Because the safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and out of an abundance of caution, the Douglas County School District will be CLOSED on Friday, November 8.

As always, in the event of a closure, all DCSD buildings are closed.
- Preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school classes are cancelled
- BASE programs are closed
- Classes at the Bridge Program, D.C. Oakes, Eagle Academy, eDCSD and Plum Creek Academy are cancelled

Our snow team will continue to monitor the storm. We will provide any updates on our website and social media. We are hopeful that the storm will pass through over the weekend and we can get back to school as normal next week.

Thank you again for your patience as we navigate the unpredictable Colorado weather.

Trying to predict the weather (even with help from experts) isn’t always easy. And today we heard from many of our staff and families that a delay was not enough. We had hoped that a delay would provide time for roads to be cleared - however the snow accumulation and subsequent road conditions were worse than anticipated.

The forecast shows that the snow is going to continue into tomorrow. This means, we are expecting icy road conditions tomorrow morning, and with the snow expected to continue throughout the day, we don’t believe another delay will be sufficient. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, the Douglas County School District will be CLOSED on Thursday, November 7.

- All activities, events, sports, and facility rentals are cancelled
- If your child attends a DCSD charter school, we encourage you to check in with your school.

Our snow team will continue to monitor the storm. We will provide any updates on our website and social media. As always, thank you for your patience with us as we navigate the often unpredictable Colorado weather.
