Ben Franklin Academy

Ben Franklin Academy Ben Franklin Academy (BFA) is a preschool through eighth grade Core Knowledge public charter school BFA also offers a tuition-based, Core Knowledge preschool.

Ben Franklin Academy (BFA) is a John Irwin School of Excellence and The STEAM School of Choice in Douglas County, Colorado. We are a kindergarten through eighth grade public, charter school that combines a challenging, sequenced curriculum with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) as well as character education. BFA’s mission is to develop young adults with cha

racter like America’s founding Renaissance man, Benjamin Franklin: well-read, scientifically curious, and civically engaged. We are a data driven institution, focusing on individual students. Finally, we recognize that an education is incomplete without fostering the arts, sports, nature, and character. BFA participates in Douglas County School District's open enrollment process. See our website or the DCSD Open Enrollment webpage for additional details about the enrollment process and timeline.

The Douglas County School District will be CLOSED on Wednesday, May 6 due to inclement weather conditions.

A winter storm warning is in effect for Douglas County now through tomorrow afternoon. We recognize that while recent warm temperatures may limit snow accumulation on roads, the heavy wet snow increases the chances of power outages, downed power lines and broken tree branches. In addition, roads are likely to be icy, especially in the early morning hours. According to forecasts, it is expected to snow until 3:00 p.m. tomorrow.

- As always, in the event of a closure, all DCSD buildings are closed.
Preschool, elementary, middle school and high school classes are cancelled
- BASE programs are closed
- Classes at the Bridge Program, D.C. Oakes, Eagle Academy, eDCSD and Plum Creek Academy are cancelled
- All activities, events, sports and facility rentals are cancelled*

*Information about any CHSAA playoff game cancellations will come directly from your school.

If you have a high school student who is scheduled to take an AP or other exam tomorrow, your school will provide information about make-up dates and times.

If your child attends a DCSD charter school, we encourage you to check in with your school.

Our snow team will continue to monitor the storm. We will provide any updates on our website and social media.
