π£π Our hatch is just about complete!
We started with 22 eggs in our incubator. Ten of those eggs stopped developing before hatch day. Of the remaining eggs, 10 chicks have hatched healthy and are now settled into their brooder box alongside the chicks that visited Storytime! π₯
Over the last day, we kept a close eye on our final two eggs. Both chicks had pipped but were having a difficult time making it all the way out of their shells. Normally, it's best to let chicks hatch on their own, but these little ones were chirping loudly and had been struggling for quite some time.
Last night, we helped one chick out of its shell and gave the other extra time overnight to see if it could finish on its own. This morning, the first chick's feathers were dry but stiff from dried egg residue, so it received a gentle baby shampoo bath and careful drying. The second chick was still working hard, so we carefully assisted it out of its shell as well. It got a warm bath, too, and is now resting comfortably with its hatchmate.
Both chicks are back in the incubator for now, where they have warmth, food, and water while they hopefully gain strength. We'll give them a little more time before introducing them to the rest of the flock.
What an incredible journey it has been watching these little ones grow from eggs into fluffy chicks. Thank you for following along on our hatching adventure! π₯β‘οΈπ£π
