πŸ£πŸ’› Our hatch is just about complete!
We started with 22 eggs in our incubator. Ten of those eggs stopped developing before hatch day. Of the remaining eggs, 10 chicks have hatched healthy and are now settled into their brooder box alongside the chicks that visited Storytime! πŸ₯

Over the last day, we kept a close eye on our final two eggs. Both chicks had pipped but were having a difficult time making it all the way out of their shells. Normally, it's best to let chicks hatch on their own, but these little ones were chirping loudly and had been struggling for quite some time.
Last night, we helped one chick out of its shell and gave the other extra time overnight to see if it could finish on its own. This morning, the first chick's feathers were dry but stiff from dried egg residue, so it received a gentle baby shampoo bath and careful drying. The second chick was still working hard, so we carefully assisted it out of its shell as well. It got a warm bath, too, and is now resting comfortably with its hatchmate.
Both chicks are back in the incubator for now, where they have warmth, food, and water while they hopefully gain strength. We'll give them a little more time before introducing them to the rest of the flock.
What an incredible journey it has been watching these little ones grow from eggs into fluffy chicks. Thank you for following along on our hatching adventure! πŸ₯šβž‘οΈπŸ£πŸ’›

🐣 Good morning from our incubator! When I went to bed last night, we had 6 chicks. This morning, we woke up to 4 more fluffy arrivals, bringing our total to 10 hatched chicks! πŸŽ‰
We're now getting the brooder box ready for our growing flock. Five eggs are still left, and several of them are already pipping, so we may have even more chicks soon!
Fun Fact: Newly hatched chicks can recognize and remember their siblings' peeps, helping them stay together as a group even when they're only a few days old. πŸ₯πŸ’›

Chick #6 has officially hatched and joined the growing flock! πŸ’›
And the excitement continues- Chick #7 has started pipping, with a tiny hole now visible in the shell. That means another chick is on its way!
We're up to six chicks and counting. Stay tuned for more fluffy arrivals! πŸ₯šπŸ₯

πŸ£πŸŽ‰ Chick #5 Has Hatched! πŸŽ‰πŸ£
Another little one has joined the flock! Chick #5 is officially out of its shell and resting after all that hard work. We're enjoying watching these tiny fluff balls make their debut one by one.
Fun Fact: Chicks can communicate with each other before they hatch! In the final days inside the egg, they make soft peeping sounds and can hear their siblings peeping back. This helps them coordinate hatching and recognize each other after they emerge.
Who will be Chick #6? Stay tuned! πŸ₯šπŸ’›πŸ₯

🐣🐣 Hatch Update! 🐣🐣
Chick #4 has officially joined the flock! That brings us to four fluffy chicks out and about, and the excitement isn't over yetβ€”Chick #5 is currently working its way out of the shell.
Hatching is hard work, so we'll be cheering from the sidelines and letting nature take its course. Stay tuned for more updates as our incubator adventure continues! πŸ’›πŸ₯šπŸ₯

πŸ₯šπŸ£ A Look Inside a Hatched Egg! 🐣πŸ₯š
Have you ever wondered what the inside of a hatched egg looks like? The thin, web-like membrane and tiny blood vessels you see inside the shell helped nourish the growing chick during development. Before hatching, the chick absorbs the remaining nutrients from the egg and most of the blood from these vessels, leaving behind this amazing reminder of the journey from egg to chick!
Every hatched shell tells the story of a tiny life that grew for 21 days before finally breaking free. Nature is incredible! πŸ’›πŸ₯

🐣 Chick Update! 🐣
Our third chick has officially hatched! πŸ’›
Fun fact: Chicks have a tiny, temporary "egg tooth" on the tip of their beak that helps them crack through the shell. Once they've finished hatching, that little egg tooth falls off on its own!
We're excited to see who hatches next. Stay tuned for more chick updates! πŸ₯

🐣 Chick Update! 🐣
We now have our second baby chick! πŸŽ‰
Even though they're out of the egg, the chicks need to stay in the incubator for 24–48 hours while they dry out and fluff up. They can safely rest there while they adjust to life outside the shell.
Stay tunedβ€”we're hoping more chicks will be joining the flock soon! πŸ₯πŸ’›

🐣 Exciting news from the incubator! 🐣
Our very first chick has started hatching! It's amazing to watch the process, but as tempting as it is to help, chicks need to do the hard work of getting out of the egg on their own. This effort helps strengthen their muscles and gives them the best chance for a healthy start.
What name should we give this first one?
Now we wait and watch to see who will be next to make their grand entrance! Stay tuned for more chick updates from Gerrity Memorial Library. πŸ₯πŸ’›
