As we head into Memorial Day weekend, the Graham County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone to celebrate safely while honoring and remembering the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. 🇺🇸

Please take time this weekend to reflect on the courage and dedication of our fallen veterans and the freedoms they fought to protect.

If you are traveling or spending time with family and friends, please:
• Drive safely and never drink and drive
• Wear your seatbelt
• Stay aware of changing weather conditions
• Keep an eye on children around water and outdoor activities
• Be respectful and responsible during celebrations

We wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend.

Never forget those who gave everything for our freedom.

🚨 POWER OUTAGE UPDATE 🚨

The Sheriff’s Office would like to inform residents that widespread power outages remain throughout east side of Hill City, following last night’s severe storm and destructive wind gusts, which were clocked at approximately 82 MPH.

Due to the extreme winds, multiple power poles have been damaged and are currently down. Utility crews are actively working as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to affected residences.

At this time, the estimated restoration for many residents without power is by 5pm today, if not later. Please understand that restoration times may change depending on the extent of the damage.

We ask for the public’s patience and cooperation while crews continue their work. Please avoid downed power lines and report any hazardous conditions to local authorities immediately.

Thank you to all utility workers and first responders assisting during this event. Stay safe.

Graham County Sheriff's Office.

It is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and the Graham County Sheriff’s Office wants to take a moment to recognize the incredible team behind the headsets.

Often referred to as the "invisible first responders," our dispatchers are the heartbeat of public safety. When you call 911 on your worst day, they are the calm voice on the other end of the line, providing life-saving instructions and ensuring help is on the way.

Why They Are Vital to Graham County:

The First Link: They are the very first point of contact in any emergency.

Officer Safety: They are our lifeline in the field, tracking our locations and providing critical information to keep us safe.

Multi-Tasking Masters: They manage radio traffic, phone lines, and computer systems simultaneously—all while remaining composed under immense pressure.

To our dispatchers: We know the long hours you put in, the stress you carry, and the dedication you show to this community. We couldn't do our jobs without you.

Join us in saying "Thank You!"

‼️ IMPORTANT FIRE SAFETY UPDATE – GRAHAM COUNTY 🚨
We have received several call in reports regarding smoke visible throughout the county today. We want to provide the following updates to keep our residents informed:

✅ NO ACTIVE FIRES IN GRAHAM COUNTY: At this time, there are no active fires or controlled burns reported within Graham County.

🌬️ WHERE IS THE SMOKE COMING FROM?
The smoke and haze you are seeing (and smelling) are drifting south from several large, active wildfires currently burning in Nebraska. Due to the current wind patterns, the smoke has settled over our area. Please do not call 911 to report smoke unless you see a distinct column of smoke or active flames in your immediate vicinity.

🔥 RED FLAG BURN IN EFFECT:
A Red Flag Warning is currently in effect for Graham County.
