Yesterday evening (06/03/2026), while operating at the scene of a single vehicle motor vehicle crash on NH Route 3-A just south of Hill village, a member of our staff was nearly struck by a motorist.
Despite one lane of the roadway being closed, despite multiple emergency vehicles in the roadway, despite other drivers & vehicles being cautious, despite NHSP being on scene, despite being told to slow down by other emergency personnel; the operator of an F-250 pickup chose to accelerate as they passed through the accident scene.
The driver of the pickup ultimately ended up passing within 2 feet of our employee and actually struck the traffic control sign our employee was utilizing with their driver’s side mirror. NHSP pursued the vehicle and as of the time of this post, we don’t know what the outcome of that pursuit was but we will say this…
PLEASE SLOW DOWN!! Especially when passing through an active emergency scene.
Our responders have families, friends, children, significant others; all of whom want them to come home safe after they leave home, work, dinner, church, birthday parties, graduations, (the event list goes on & on), to help a stranger, (or maybe a friend or family member) in their time of need.
Our lives are not meaningless, no human life is…so please SLOW DOWN, MOVE OVER, PAY ATTENTION, and let everyone go home safe!!

Thankful to our representatives in Concord and the Governor for getting this done.

During weekly training yesterday evening Hill Fire Department staff participated in driver safety and training. Some of the training included serpentine forward and backward, evasive safety maneuvers to prevent a collision, and “alley docking”, a common maneuver for drivers during CDL testing. This training helps familiarize drivers with the difference in operating large emergency vehicles, especially when they may do so infrequently. Great job by all involved!!
