A good reminder. Let's watch out for our kids!

Schools are gearing up to start back up; some as early as next week. With that being said, our school buses will be out and about helping get our children to and from school safely.

Please remember your patience, slow down and watch for children.

I have attached some school bus information below.

#Stop4Buses It's Back to School Week! Remember to 🛑 STOP for school buses 🚌 anytime you see a bus stopped, kids are nearby.

In Colorado, you must 🛑 stop your vehicle at least 20 feet before reaching a school bus that is stopped with its 🚨 red lights 🚨 flashing. You must 🛑 STOP whether it is on your side of the road, the opposite side of the road, or at an intersection, you are approaching.

The only exception is if you are traveling on the opposite side of a "legally separated roadway," you may proceed with ⚠️ CAUTION.

What's a "legally separated roadway?" It's a highway that is divided into two or more roadways by a depressed, raised, or painted median or other intervening space serving as a clearly indicated dividing section or island.

Check out the illustration below for more details.

Yard water is off due to a break in mainline at Charles & Marietta. Please avoid that block. Use Emerson St for town access off of Hwy 6

Heads up

Anyone in the dark green and especially in the yellow should be prepared for the possibility of additional thunderstorms through the overnight hours and into early Sunday morning.

I don’t think every storm will be severe but given the favorable parameters we’ve seen so far today, I can’t rule them out!

The tornado shelter is open

Due to the recent rains, trash dumpsters and toters in the alley between Charles and Clifford were not able to be dumped today. Wolf Waste will be back on Wednesday to dump them. Sorry for the delay - Wolf Waste didn't want to tear up those alleys.

This is the collection of wipes that caused our sewer pumps to stop again today. We had to have the pumps pulled just last Monday the 5th because both pumps were plugged so bad the town was unable to pull them with our equipment. Please stop flushing wipes.

General information

Springing up along the second railroad line constructed in this part of the South Platte Valley, the Burlington, Chicago and Quincy Railroad deemed it necessary to build a connecting spur from Union to Brush to serve the large ranches as a shipping center. Many small farms were made possible by irrigation, no doubt spurred by the 1882 beginning of the Lower Platte and Beaver Canal Co. delivering water to the fertile valley making this an excellent location for a town. The land for the Town was donated by Mrs. Katherine Emerson to the Lincoln Land Co. with two restrictions: half of the land was to be donated for the town, for streets and parks and the Town and its streets were to be named for her children. Her married daughter Rose Hill was the Town's namesake but there was already a Rosehill in Colorado so she reversed the order of the names and Hillrose was born. The first streets in the town were named after her children: Catherine, Marietta, Dana, Rose and Charles and main street was named Emerson Street. Incorporated by a unanimous vote of the people on April 21, 1919, Hillrose continues to thrive in our northeast corner of Morgan County!
