from CDOT
Bridge work on the bridge approx. 1 mile east of I-76 on Hwy 6. Anticipated construction activities and traffic impacts for the week of October 17th. Daily shoulder closures for pre-construction activities (surveying, signing and mobilization). All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
CDOT will replace a bridge on U.S. Highway 6 (mile point 372.75) approximately one mile east of the Interstate 76/US 6 interchange starting next week. Daily lane closures with flaggers alternating traffic are expected for several months while the contractor removes an old timber bridge and replaces it with a concrete box culvert.
A week-long full closure of US 6 between I-76 and County Road U is necessary in November. More information will be posted on message boards near the work zone and on the project web page as the closure date approaches. A signed detour route will be provided.
Pavement at the US 6 bridge approaches will be replaced, and outside shoulders will be widened to eight feet. Other project work includes new guardrail, drainage improvements, and upgraded signage and striping. Project completion is expected in late 2022 for the US 6 location.
The US 6 bridge is the fifth of ten timber bridges throughout the region to be replaced. The project is about to kick of the second phase, which will replace two US 34 bridges in Washington County between Akron and Otis in addition to the US 6 bridge in Morgan County. Work on the US 34 bridges will begin this spring.

FYI - CDOT is planning on chip sealing Hwy 6 starting tomorrow June 6th. They will be chipping one lane at a time up to the Town's intersections, skipping over the Town to continue north to their project limits. Then on the 7th they will come back and chip through Town. While chipping through Hillrose they will be blocking all intersections to Hwy 6 until the chip has a chance to set. If you are heading to Brush go to East Street then south to our South Street or County Road W to get to Road 33 to I-76. If you are heading northeast to Merino go to East Street and north to Hwy 6. Depending on the temperature and humidity this will last up to 6 hours. Do not attempt to go around the barricades.
Please share this post to give everyone a heads up. Thank you.
Looks like a great time and close to home!

A good reminder. Let's watch out for our kids!
Schools are gearing up to start back up; some as early as next week. With that being said, our school buses will be out and about helping get our children to and from school safely.
Please remember your patience, slow down and watch for children.
I have attached some school bus information below.
It's Back to School Week! Remember to 🛑 STOP for school buses 🚌 anytime you see a bus stopped, kids are nearby.
In Colorado, you must 🛑 stop your vehicle at least 20 feet before reaching a school bus that is stopped with its 🚨 red lights 🚨 flashing. You must 🛑 STOP whether it is on your side of the road, the opposite side of the road, or at an intersection, you are approaching.
The only exception is if you are traveling on the opposite side of a "legally separated roadway," you may proceed with ⚠️ CAUTION.
What's a "legally separated roadway?" It's a highway that is divided into two or more roadways by a depressed, raised, or painted median or other intervening space serving as a clearly indicated dividing section or island.
Check out the illustration below for more details.
Always lots of cool and yummy stuff! Music is good as well! Check it out.
We hope to see you there!
