AUTO EXTRICATION TRAINING — HOST DEPARTMENT NEEDED!

Muddy River Training is proud to announce the award of the “Cut & Clear” Auto Extrication Training Grant through the Missouri Department of Transportation!

The Cut & Clear program is built around one mission: reduce roadway fatalities through faster, safer, and more efficient vehicle extrication.

This hands-on course will focus on rapid extrication techniques, efficient incident operations, and getting Missouri roadways reopened as quickly and safely as possible.

We already have host locations secured in:

📍 St. Louis County, Missouri
📍 Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri

We are looking for ONE MORE Missouri fire department to host this FREE course!

There is no cost for the training, and this is a great opportunity to bring high-quality, hands-on auto extrication training to your department and surrounding agencies.

Interested in becoming our final host location?

Message Muddy River Training for host requirements and additional information.

CUT & CLEAR

I was reading a year-end report from a fire agency in my area, and one detail caught my attention.

The department reported 209 dispatched cardiac arrests and 213 dispatched building fires.

Nearly the same number.

The report went into great detail about how they are on the cutting edge of EMS. CPR feedback. Data logging. Compression rate and depth. Ventilation rate and tidal volume. They can essentially pull a play-by-play of what happened during a cardiac arrest and use that information to build an elite quality-control and performance-evaluation program.

That’s great. That is exactly what a progressive EMS system should be doing.

But you know what the report didn’t say?

How did their firefighters perform at those 213 building fires?

What was the average arrival-to-water-on-the-fire time?

How long did it take to establish a sustained water supply?

How long did the primary search take?

How quickly was the first line stretched and operating?

How often did the first-arriving company meet its tactical benchmarks?

What fireground performance data is actually being collected, reviewed, and used to improve operations?

EMS continues to evolve because it embraces science, measurement, feedback, and hard data. Meanwhile, portions of the fire service remain stuck doing things the way they have always been done.

Maybe the uncomfortable truth is that we are sometimes afraid to measure ourselves.

Because once you start collecting data, you have to be willing to look at the results.

Set benchmarks for your department. Set benchmarks for yourself. Measure them. Review them. Train against them.

Look at the trends within your own organization and across the fire service. Find out where you are strong and, more importantly, where you are not.

For years, EMS was treated like the stepchild of the fire service. Now, in many places, EMS performance measurement is passing fire suppression by because they have embraced quality improvement while we continue relying on tradition and anecdote.

Tradition matters. Experience matters. But neither one replaces measurable performance.

If you or your agency is the only one doing something, you are either cutting edge or ignorant.

Data helps determine which one you are.

And if you can tell me your department’s first-pass intubation success rate to the decimal point, but you can’t tell me your average arrival-to-water-on-the-fire time, it might be time to remember what those million-dollar big red trucks were built to do.

Data matters. Especially the data in your response area. Get out there and figure out where your baseline is and train to improve it!

Tired of the big fire equipment sales companies that don’t answer emails, take forever to call you back, or—worse yet—don’t really understand the equipment they’re selling?

Yeah… we were too.

So we decided to do something about it.

At Muddy River, when you call about equipment, you’re not just talking to a salesman. You’re talking to a firefighter, instructor, technician, or technical rescue professional who actually knows the equipment because we use it too.

No runaround. No reading specs off a website. Just real-world knowledge from people who understand the job.

We’re firefighters first. Salesmen just for fun.

Give us a call. Let’s talk equipment.
