Extreme heat can become dangerous quickly. As temperatures climb, it's important to recognize the signs of heat-related illness and know when to take action. Heatstroke is a life-threatening medical emergency that occurs when the body's temperature rises to 104°F (40°C) or higher and can no longer cool itself effectively.

Watch for warning signs such as:
⚠️ Confusion, altered mental status, or slurred speech
⚠️ High body temperature
⚠️ Hot, red, dry, or damp skin
⚠️ Nausea or vomiting
⚠️ Rapid breathing or a racing pulse
⚠️ Severe headache
⚠️ Loss of consciousness

If you suspect someone is experiencing heatstroke:
🚨 Call 911 immediately
🌳 Move them to a cooler location
👕 Remove excess clothing
💦 Begin cooling with water, fans, cool towels, or ice packs

Don't wait for symptoms to get worse. During extreme heat events, stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, avoid strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day, and check on family, friends, neighbors, and pets.

Stay safe out there! ☀️❤️

Sunny skies don't always mean safe water. ☀️🌊 While the weather may be heating up, many of Oregon's rivers, lakes, and coastal waters remain dangerously cold. Sudden immersion in cold water can trigger cold shock, causing an involuntary gasp reflex, rapid breathing, and loss of muscle control, putting even experienced swimmers at risk.

Before heading out on the water:
✔️ Check the water temperature
✔️ Wear a properly fitted life jacket
✔️ Never underestimate cold water conditions

A beautiful summer day can turn into an emergency in seconds. Stay safe, stay prepared, and respect the water.

It's gearing up to be a hot weekend, and an Extreme Heat Warning and Heat Advisory have been issued for our area from Sunday through Tuesday. ☀️🌡️ High temperatures can quickly become dangerous, especially for older adults, young children, individuals with medical conditions, outdoor workers, and pets. Stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, wear lightweight clothing, and check in on family members, friends, and neighbors who may be vulnerable to the heat. If you don't have access to air conditioning, consider spending time in a cooling center, library, shopping center, or other air-conditioned public space. Stay safe out there!
