As we close out the week, we’re saying goodbye to one of the good ones.
After 36 years of service to Jefferson County and the Sheriff’s Office, Corrections Supervisor Susan Coleman is calling it a career.
“Susan is nothing short of a pleasure,” said jail commander Captain Brian Taylor. “She’s been an asset to this organization, and has always strived for the betterment of the agency. It’s been an honor to work alongside her, and I wish her the best in her retirement.”
Enjoy sleeping in, traveling on a whim, and everything retirement has to offer, Supervisor Coleman. You’ve earned it! 🫡

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Austin Schwent, PhD!
Dr. Schwent joined the Sheriff's Office's Crisis Intervention Unit in 2022 while studying for his Doctorate through Liberty University. Last week, he defended his dissertation and officially added some extra letters to his professional title.
Dr. Schwent has spent countless hours assisting Jefferson County residents who are experiencing mental health crises. And he specializes in Forensic Psychology, making him uniquely qualified to bridge mental health expertise with criminal and civil applications.
As a co-responder, Dr. Schwent works in the field alongside Deputies, Negotiators, and other Crisis Intervention Unit members to help bring peaceful resolutions to emergency calls involving people in mental health crisis. And we're to say this co-responder model is the only agency-staffed and operated one of its kind in the St. Louis region.
”Austin’s expertise will strengthen the work of our Crisis Intervention Team as we continue to expand our ability to respond to individuals experiencing a mental health or behavioral crisis,” said Sheriff Dave Marshak. “Ultimately, that investment in our people translates into better service for Jefferson County residents and gives our deputies additional knowledge and resources to handle some of the most challenging situations they encounter.”
Please see the attached news release for more on Dr. Schwent's impact on the Jefferson County Community.
Congrats again, Doc!

What a great day!
Thanks to the organizers for having us out to the Seckman Dribble and Drive Car Show this weekend. It was fun seeing all the amazing show cars and meeting community members who were out to support a good cause.
And congrats to the winners. While our patrol vehicle might not be as flashy as some others there, we've heard unconfirmed reports that the Bearcat won Best Armored Vehicle In Show.🏆😄

Some people: "Cops are boring and don't know how to have fun."
Deputy Gibson: "Hold my Red Bull."

School Resource Officers are protectors, leaders, mentors, and friends. And yeah, they know how to have fun, too.

You know what’s great on a hot summer day? Fresh frozen custard from Culver's!
Laura Borman from Gracelife Chapel - STL and Jim Robinson, Owner of Culver’s in Crystal City, stopped by to drop off some dishes of frozen custard that were leftover from another event.
First off, a huge thanks to both of them for thinking of us.
Second, who doesn’t finish their frozen custard? 🤷 We’re not mad, though. It’s more fuel for the justice machine.
Thanks again, Jim and Laura! 🫡
