Thank you so much Wauna La-Mon'tay Lodge !! Another great service day at Camp Ireland.

Not only did this group clean up the old nature trail which is being read named “Trail to First Class” they extended it to the road going down to the stage and on the other end linked it to the Swallow Tail trail.

They also cleaned an area so we will have a dedicated spot for Porta Potty Rentals to be placed and an area for a future wash station.

And if all that wasn’t enough. They cleared an area for the future class room space where hopefully some day we can have a year around large shelter area but for now we are putting several large canopy tents.

Thank you all for your service and dedication to Camp Ireland.

It was recently suggested that I introduce myself so everyone knows who’s posting updates about Camp Ireland.

For those I haven’t met yet, my name is Ed Henson, and I serve as the volunteer Camp Ireland Property Chair. Many of you know me through Scouting, but for the past two years I’ve been working mostly behind the scenes at Camp Ireland.

What started as basic maintenance and cleanup has grown into something much bigger. This year, a small group of dedicated volunteers began developing a clear plan and path forward for the camp’s future.

Last winter, severe weather caused significant damage — including damage to the stage seating area and loss of power to the camp. We’ve since cleaned up the damage, restored power over the summer, and begun reorganizing key areas. The Trading Post and shipping container were cleaned out and are still being organized. Unfortunately, damage to the shipping container and rodent activity resulted in the loss of some stored items. Anything that could be salvaged is either being repurposed for future use at Camp Ireland or has found a home supporting other camps and programs.

This spring, Rangers Steve and Evan helped fall several dead and hazardous trees, with more work still ahead.

This weekend’s Order of the Arrow service project is just the beginning of a multi-year plan to strengthen and revitalize Camp Ireland. There is a lot of work to do — and a lot of opportunity.

A couple more photos from the Order of the Arrows - Wauna La-Mon’Tay Lodge service day at Camp Ireland today.

Today’s crew tackled digging trenchs to locate underground conduit and water lines to support future flushing toilets in the kybo and long-term infrastructure upgrades.

Next up: March 21 — “Trail to First Class” trail, repairs to the stage seating area, obstacle course repairs, invasive species removal amd post for a new sign.

In the coming months I hope to share more updated on the future of Camp Ireland.
