The reason why Hillsboro no longer has a ambulance is not a simple answer there were many things that went into the decision to close. 1st state regulations and cms( centers for Medicare and medicaid) workers compensation, travelers audits and other mandates are getting harder to meet due to the lack of funds yes we get monies from the county and the calls that we make but expenses are more than what we can bring back in. 2. Lack of volunteers do you know that just to become a certified emt basic the class is 180hrs then 72hrs of recert every 2 yrs on top of yearly hazmat, protocol refreshers and every 2 yrs cpr and mass casualties training. To spite that we have to travel outside of the county to even obtain our emt with a cost of around 1500.00 just so volunteers and do the service for free. The way of the volunteers is long gone and with the ever growing cost of keeping a ambulance running we could not afford to pay for emts. We are currently the 26th ambulance service to shut down in west virginia in the last 2 yrs. The sad thing is there wasn't a soul that was knocking on our door to join to volunteer. 3. Office of ems state regulations on ambulance licensure. They come to inspect the ambulance to make sure that you are up to code make sure that monies are accounted for, make sure you have a medical director ect. The price for supplies is unreal 1 narcan 880.00 1 epi 500.00 the general population doesn't know how much it cost just to stock a ambulance and if calls are scarce then those drugs expire and your out of the funding and have to pay for all new. Unfortunately there is no simple answer to why the decision was made it was a conglomerate of many things that led to the decision to close its doors im extremely saddened by this as are the other members of the dept and with donations made to the county we hope to soon have more coverage for our southern end.

All community members we are wanting each and everyone of you to be aware that Hillsboro no longer has a ambulance service. The ambulance is being donated to the county commission for the Pocahontas County Ambulance Service. We are extremely greatful to PMH and Marlinton ems for covering our area. Our hearts pour out to our brothers & sisters in Braxton County, WV and Gassaway VFD Station 2 during this difficult time.

Firefighter John D. Forbush died in the line of duty attempting to save a mother and child from the Elk River today, 5/1/22.

Please keep the victims, the responders, and all of the friends and families in your thoughts and prayers as they find peace with this horrific incident.

The lack of volunteers has caused a fire department in Logan County to start the dissolving process.
