Montgomery County, Illinois was formed in 1821 out of Bond and Madison Counties. It was named in honor of Richard Montgomery, an American Revolutionary War general killed in 1775 while attempting to capture Quebec City, Canada.

Hillsboro Deer Run Mine End of Year Map Now Posted on County Website
Montgomery County Clerk/Recorder Sandy Leitheiser recently announced the County Clerk/Recorder’s office recently received a copy of Hillsboro’s Deer Run Coal Mine 2026 Annual Mining Map. This map is statutorily required to be provided to the County Clerk/Recorder’s office annually for public view by Patton Mining, LLC to fulfill the requirements of the Illinois Coal Mining Act. The map defines the location of both previously mined areas and proposed mining areas for Deer Run Coal Mine on an annual basis.
Leitheiser stated anyone interested in viewing the Deer Run Coal Mine 2026 Annual Mining Map may do so on the Montgomery County website’s (montgomerycountyil.gov) G.I.S. mapping page, looking for the “Deer Run Coal Mine Annual Mining Map” link. A printed copy of the map is also available for viewing at the County Clerk’s office. Anyone with questions relating to the map is encouraged to contact Patton Mining Engineering Associate Brian Monk at 12051 9th Av, PO Box 457, Hillsboro, IL 62049. A link to the map is here:

We appreciate our Election Judges, our Polling Places, our Township Officials who help us set up the polls, our County Board, and last but certainly not least our wonderful County staff for going above and beyond for our voters!
