We’re expecting hot temperatures in the mid-90s. As temperatures climb, there are several things to keep in mind to :

☀️ Stay out of the sun to prevent health-related illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

👨‍👩‍👦 Twice a day, check on friends, family and neighbors who may have a higher risk of heat-related illnesses.

🚗 Never leave infants, pets or children in parked cars – it can get dangerously hot quickly.

🌊 Be careful out on the water, our local rivers are very cold and moving fast! Wear a life jacket and swim with a buddy.

Looking to swim for relief from the heat this weekend? Avoid diving right into lakes, rivers or other water bodies. The outside temperatures are hot, but the water is still very cold. Going from hot temperatures to cold lake or stream water can cause “cold shock,” a very dangerous condition that can lead to changes in breathing, heart rate and blood pressure and put you at risk for drowning. Temperatures are forecasted to be more than 90°F for multiple days from Saturday through Monday. Our bodies are not used to hot weather, and this early-season heat could lead to illness. Know the signs of heat illness and what to do if you see someone with symptoms. Check in regularly with family, friends and neighbors who are vulnerable to heat, especially if they live alone, are older or don't have AC. Learn more: staycoolwashingtoncounty.com
