Press release:
On the evening of August 11th through the morning of August 12th information was received through the Nokomis Police Department that a possible explosive device(s) was located inside of an abandoned residence near Shane Cole Park in Nokomis. A subsequent investigation by NPD, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Secretary of State Police Bomb Squad, and FBI led to a search warrant being obtained through the Montgomery County States Attorney Office. A perimeter was established around the residence and neighbors were advised to evacuate their homes or shelter in place. Secretary of State Police Bomb Squad and FBI then systematically conducted a search of the exterior and interior of the property. The search resulted with items resembling a “pipe bomb” being removed from the residence, analyzed, and deemed to be non-explosive. No explosive devices or material were located on the property. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank those residents impacted for your cooperation and patience. We would also like to thank NPD, SOS bomb squad, FBI, Montgomery County EMA, Montgomery County States Attorney Shaw, and Nokomis Fire and Ambulance for your dedicated service as this matter was carefully resolved.
