Smoke from the Ross Fire is making its way into our area. Please remain vigilant and if you suspect you're seeing smoke from a nearby fire rather than what's blowing in, don't hesitate to call 911.

We would much rather investigate smoke in the area than have a fire continue to spread while unreported!

🚫60 Day Burn Ban for Hill County🚫
Beginning today (8/4/2026) we are under a 60 day burn ban. Please refer to the below post from Hill Co. Emergency Management for more information.

8/4/26: Hill County Commissioners order a 60 day burn ban

This morning in Commissioners Court the Hill County Commissioners ordered a 60 day burn ban.

The order prohibits outdoor activities that produce flames or sparks that could start a fire, including the reckless disposal of burning materials. Violations are a Class C misdemeanor and may result in a fine of up to $500.

Outdoor cooking is still allowed when:
• It is attended at all times by a responsible person
• A way to call 911 is available
• A fire extinguisher or pressurized water source is kept nearby

Welding, cutting, and grinding may continue under specific safety requirements, including:
• Winds of 20 mph or less
• A dedicated fire watch
• Access to 911
• A fire extinguisher or pressurized water source on site

The burn ban will remain in effect for up to 60 days unless it is lifted earlier by the County Judge or Commissioners Court.

Please use extreme caution and help protect our residents, firefighters, and property.

From all of your Woodbury Volunteers, we wish you a happy and safe Fourth of July! As you celebrate 250 years of this great country, if you choose to set off your own fireworks, please remain safety conscious.

Be prepared with a fire extinguisher, hose, or other means of putting out any spot fires that might occur. Don’t launch fireworks in or near tall grass or tree lines. Lastly, if fires do start, please don’t hesitate in reporting it to 911. The sooner we know about a fire, the faster we can prevent further damage from occurring.

Yesterday, your Woodbury VFD volunteers were called to a fire involving several stored hay bales with extension into nearby fields. With the assistance of Whitney Fire/Rescue, Peoria Volunteer Fire Dept. and Covington Fire Rescue, we were able to make a quick stop on forward progression of the fire and begin the lengthy process of overhauling the burning hay bales to mitigate the potential for a rekindle overnight.

We would like to thank all our neighboring agencies for their quick response and assistance with this fire. We would also like to thank D&B Property Maintenance for the use of one of their tractors in the overhaul process which drastically increased the speed and safety of the operation.

Earlier this afternoon, your Woodbury VFD volunteers were requested as a mutual aid department to assist Cedar Creek, Blum, Lakeview and White Bluff who were working to contain a hay field fire.
We are proud to be able to provide mutual aid to our neighbors when they need it, and rest easy knowing they will do the same for us when the need arises!

This past week, your Woodbury VFD members re-certified on their CPR and AED skills with the fantastic teaching of our CareFlite instructor. We were also happy to host some members of City of Blum Fire / Rescue as well!

While these are the kind of skills you hope to never need, it’s vitally important that our volunteers remain current on them so we can provide competent, timely response during critical medical emergencies.

This past Saturday Woodbury VFD members conducted their monthly training focused on pump operations and hose handling techniques. We also implemented a different style of hose load across our fleet to allow for faster deployment.
Continued training and improvements to our operation ensure our members remain ready to serve the citizens of Hill County.

Last night, along with many other Hill Co. departments, Woodbury VFD members were busy attending to storm related calls. These incidents ranged from utility wires down/arcing to trees blocking roadways.

We’d like to thank the members of our community who patiently allowed us to work safely to clear the roads as well as those who offered to lend a hand in the clearing.
