Orange Grove Fire Department

Orange Grove Fire Department We are a small combination fire department that serves the southwest portion of Orange County.

06/02/2026

At approximately 5:00 a.m. this morning, Units were dispatched to the area of Brights Way for a reported structure fire. OGFD, along with Carrboro Fire-Rescue Department, White Cross Volunteer Fire Department, and New Hope Fire Department responded on the initial alarm.
Upon arrival, OG 501 found a large two story residential structure that had heavy fire showing. Due to the volume of fire and no hydrants in the area, the tanker task force was requested to assist with water supply. Fortunately, all residents evacuated the home prior to our arrival, and no firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Orange County Fire Marshal's Office.
Units and personnel from all departments across Orange County responded to assist with fire suppression and support operations. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all of our mutual aid partners and Orange County Emergency Services - NC.

Thank you to everyone who responded and assisted throughout this incident.

Tonight, OGFD honored a long-standing fire service tradition by pushing in and placing 531 into service.

This truck is dedicated to Richard Sykes in recognition of his more than 50 years of service to the Orange Grove community and southern Orange County. Richard began as a volunteer firefighter and later served a long career protecting and serving our community. We were honored to have him steer it during the push in. Dedicating this truck to Richard is a small way to thank him for his decades of dedication and service.

We're excited to have Mini Pumper 531 in service and ready to put it to work.

Crews quickly overcame challenges, including clearing access to the scene and deploying a long hose lay to contain the blaze and prevent further damage. No injuries were reported.
