School Library Month 📚 | Sherry Cieutat, Pathways Elementary School

We're still celebrating and spotlighting our school librarians! Today, you'll learn more about Sherry Cieutat from Pathways Elementary School!

Sherry Cieutat loves to read!

Mrs. Cieutat loves to read books, talk about books, buy more books, recommend books, display books, plan lessons about books, give out bookmarks for books, watch author videos about books, compare books, deliver books to classrooms, catalog new books, celebrate books, evaluate books, write about books, ask questions about books, dress up about books, curate book lists for teachers, discuss vocabulary from books, host events about books, wear shirts about books, and not as enthusiastically, but often, shelve, w**d, and repair books!

Her dream would be to create incessant readers who take risks with reading and entice others to read!

Orange County Schools will be CLOSED for students, staff, and the public on Monday, March 16.

Based on forecasts from the National Weather Service, we expect unusually severe weather at unpredictable times Monday afternoon and evening, including rain and high, damaging winds. The potential for strong afternoon storms is especially critical to our decision to keep students and families out of harm’s way.

We have stayed in close contact with local authorities, and we have decided to close so that all motorists — buses, student drivers, families, staff, our whole community — can avoid any potential for traveling in conditions that may deteriorate during the day with little time to adjust.

Please remember that safety is our highest priority, and we take every situation that affects safety very seriously. District staff meet frequently to review our safety procedures, assess facilities, and help ensure that our school community is prepared for weather and any potential after-effects.

Finally, due to banked time, there is no need to make up Monday on our academic calendar. All OCS schools and facilities will be closed, and staff should contact their supervisors for any questions.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please stay tuned to your email, telephone, and our website orangecountyfirst.com for any further updates.

Stay safe and have a great night!

On Thursday, February 5, OCS will be on a TWO-HOUR DELAY.

We value every moment of teaching and learning, and we want everyone to arrive at school safely! A two-hour delay will allow our OCS Transportation and Operations teams time to evaluate roads and campuses for safety during the daylight hours.

📌 Buses will arrive two hours after the regularly scheduled time. Please plan to be at your child’s bus stop 10 minutes before the new delayed arrival time.
📌 Schools will open two hours later than usual and will follow a shortened schedule.
📌 Please continue to monitor orangecountyfirst.com for updates.

Orange County Schools will be CLOSED for students on Monday, February 2, 2026.

With hazardous road conditions in our area and extreme cold temperatures through Monday, all OCS schools and facilities will be closed. All athletic and after-school activities are also canceled. There is no remote instruction for students on Monday, February 2.

OCS Transportation and Operations teams will continue to check area roads and prepare all our campuses in order to help our schools open when ready, with safety as our highest priority.

Friday, January 30, 2026 will be the fifth Remote Learning Day for Orange County Schools this year.

All schools and facilities will remain closed.

We have remained in constant contact with the NC Department of Transportation, National Weather Service, local law enforcement, and emergency services. We appreciate their collaboration helping us make safety our highest priority. Our Operations team has also continued clearing any hazardous spots on our campuses.

However, many routes for buses and motorists remain unsafe for travel in Orange County this evening, and freezing temperatures will continue much of the day on Friday.

Students and staff in all grade levels (K-12) will continue in remote learning on Friday. We are watching the forecast for the weekend very closely and will make an announcement about next Monday as early as possible.

Need Help? Keep checking for messages from your child’s school, and visit our Remote Learning page on the OCS website (orangecountyfirst.com).
