Please note that all Crocker traffic will enter and exit through the Gym entrance, with temporary traffic signals on Ralston to help manage traffic during drop-off and pick-up. HPD officers will be visible and monitoring speeds and rolling stops—please plan ahead, follow all traffic directions, and help us keep our students safe! 💙🚓

Traffic enforcement continues to be an important part of keeping our community and roadways safe.

During a recent day shift, HPD officers conducted proactive traffic enforcement throughout Hillsborough. During one traffic stop, officers determined the driver was operating a vehicle with a suspended license and also had an outstanding warrant. The driver was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail.

As a reminder, California law requires drivers approaching a stationary emergency vehicle displaying emergency lights, a tow truck displaying flashing amber lights, or a marked highway maintenance vehicle with flashing lights to move over or slow down.

Please stay alert, slow down, and give those working along our roadways the space they need to stay safe.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the ultimate sacrifice of Hillsborough Police Officer Eugene Albert Doran.

Sixty-seven years ago today, on August 5, 1959, Officer Doran was tragically killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop on Bunker Hill Road near Skyline Boulevard. While checking a license plate that had been reported stolen, he was ambushed and fatally shot by an armed parolee. He was just doing what officers do every day, protecting the community he served.

Officer Doran left behind his pregnant wife and two young children. His legacy, however, lives on. The Eugene A. Doran Memorial Bridge on Interstate 280 stands near the location of his sacrifice, later renamed to also honor his son, Patrick Doran, who gave his life serving our country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War in 1967.

Two generations. Two heroes. One legacy of selfless service.

Today, and every day, we remember Officer Doran's courage, dedication, and sacrifice. His service will never be forgotten.

Monthly Stats for July 2026

RESPONSE TIMES:
During the month of July 2026, the average response time for all calls for service was 6 minutes and 20 seconds. There were no Priority 1 Emergency calls during the month. These response times were derived from the 388 calls that qualify for response-time tracking.

PATROL STATISTICS:
This report includes a summary of the total incidents for all calls for service as well as the total number and type of police reports that were generated. The Patrol Statistics report also includes our
total number of arrests as well as citations.

During the month of July 2026, HPD responded to and handled 2,042 calls for service and reported incidents. 629 incidents were resident calls for service and 1,413 were officer-initiated incidents.
HPD made 4 arrests and issued 60 total citations in the month.

CRIME SUMMARY:
This report is a summary of all crimes documented and investigated by the Hillsborough Police Department. In July, there were 3 residential burglaries and 1 “other” burglary. In 2026, we have
investigated a total of 8 residential burglaries and 3 “other” burglaries (construction site, commercial, or vehicle).

Residential Burglary
On 7/18/26, Hillsborough Police responded to a report of a residential burglary in progress on the 300 block of West Santa Inez Avenue in Hillsborough. Responding officers located a suspect in a
vehicle matching the description provided by an attentive passerby. Upon contact, the suspect was detained and identified as a Chilean citizen. Two other suspects were able to elude capture despite a multi-agency search. Investigators located evidence demonstrating the suspect’s involvement in the burglary and are conducting additional follow-up to identify other suspects.

Elder Abuse / Grand Theft
Between December 2024 and January 2025, an elderly Hillsborough resident was victimized through an elaborate telephone scam. The victim was subsequently defrauded of over $100,000 by multiple suspects who arrived at her residence to collect large amounts of US Currency. HPD Investigators were subsequently able to identify the suspects through images of the suspect vehicles, cellular phone records, and cooperation with allied law enforcement agencies throughout the Bay Area. HPD Investigators learned that one of the suspects had committed similar crimes throughout multiple Bay Area counties, all targeting elderly victims. The criminal case against the suspect from multiple counties was consolidated and filed in the Napa County Superior Court, with an upcoming court date for a preliminary hearing. HPD Investigators will assist the elderly victim
with travel arrangements to Napa County in order for the case to be tried.

This week, HPD was honored to host Xinpu Elementary baseball team from Taiwan. The players got a behind the-scenes tour of our facilities, checked out a fire truck and police vehicles, watched a drone demo, K9 demo, and even tried on some SWAT gear. Everyone had a blast, and we wish the team the best of luck in their upcoming games!

Congratulations to Corporal Matt Galit on his well-deserved promotion!

Corporal Galit brings a decade of law enforcement experience and a proven commitment to leadership, mentorship, and professional excellence. Since joining the Hillsborough Police Department in 2017, he has served in numerous assignments, including Patrol Officer, Police Inspector, School Resource Officer, and Crime Prevention Officer, while also taking on a wide range of instructor and specialized roles.

Throughout his career, Corporal Galit has consistently demonstrated a passion for developing others, strengthening our department through training, and leading by example. Whether conducting complex investigations, mentoring new officers, or serving as an acting Corporal, he has earned the respect of his peers through professionalism, accountability, and dedication to public service.

Today, he continues to serve as a Defensive Tactics Instructor, Fi****ms Instructor, TASER Instructor, PepperBall Instructor, Field Training Officer, Drone Pilot, Crime Prevention Officer, Hillsborough Neighborhood Network Liaison, and Defensive Tactics Instructor for the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium.

Residential Burglary Investigation and Arrest
Incident: 2026-0285

HILLSBOROUGH, Calif.: On Saturday, July 18, 2026, at approximately 9:37 p.m., the Hillsborough Police Department received a report of a burglary in progress in the 300 block of West Santa Inez Avenue. A resident reported that an SUV had parked in front of a neighboring home, that two masked subjects had exited and climbed over a gate onto the property while a driver remained with the vehicle, and that metal clanging could be heard from the side of the residence.

Officers arrived within minutes of the call and detained the driver, who was still parked in front of the home. The resident confirmed the SUV was the same vehicle the two subjects had exited, and the vehicle was found to be displaying stolen license plates.

A substantial multi-agency response followed. Officers from agencies across San Mateo County established a perimeter and searched the surrounding neighborhood with drones and tracking K9 teams. Investigators confirmed that a rear window of the residence had been shattered, and a discarded backpack containing burglary tools, including power tools, was recovered along the
suspects’ flight path in the 400 block of Roblar Avenue. The two subjects were not located and remain outstanding. The home was unoccupied at the time of the burglary, no injuries were
reported, and the extent of any loss is still being determined.

The SUV was towed as evidence, and the driver, an adult female and Chilean national, was arrested and booked into San Mateo County Jail on charges of residential burglary, conspiracy, and possession of stolen property.

The investigation remains active. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the area, processing evidence recovered from the scene, and forensically examining electronic devices
seized from the vehicle as they work to identify those involved.

As both subjects were masked and detailed descriptions are limited, the department is asking residents in the area of West Santa Inez Avenue and Roblar Avenue to review home surveillance
video recorded between 9:00 and 11:00 p.m. that evening and to share anything of note with investigators.

The department credits this arrest to the resident who reported the activity as it occurred and remained on the line with dispatchers while officers responded. Immediate reporting makes
outcomes like this possible, and residents should not hesitate to call the police when activity in their neighborhood appears out of the ordinary.
