In Loving Memory of K9 Vader
It is with profound sadness and deep gratitude that we announce the passing of K9 Vader, a devoted Czech Shepherd whose unwavering loyalty, courage, and service left a lasting impact on his community, his fellow officers, and the family who loved him.
Born in Slovakia in 2013, Vader began his law enforcement career in 2014, serving with fierce faithfulness and dedication until his retirement on September 1, 2024. He was 13 years old at the time of his passing.
Throughout his distinguished career, Vader exemplified the highest standards of service, protecting the public and standing beside his fellow officers with remarkable skill, determination, and heart.
Among his many accomplishments, Vader was instrumental in locating two kilograms of co***ne during a traffic stop, tracking and apprehending individuals responsible for residential break-ins and thefts, and helping recover evidence from a home invasion. He tracked a subject that had just committed a serious domestic violence assault. He also successfully tracked and located suspects involved in the sale of stolen fi****ms, multiple vehicle break-ins, and larcenies.
Vader also demonstrated extraordinary discipline and professionalism when his controlled aggression helped de-escalate a dangerous encounter involving an armed and violent individual, bringing a potentially tragic situation to a safe resolution.
While his accomplishments were impressive, those who knew Vader best remember more than his work. He possessed a unique ability to transition instantly from a friendly, playful companion to a focused and determined working dog. One moment he was enjoying time with those he loved, and the next he was fully engaged in his duties, displaying the intelligence, confidence, and dedication that made him an exceptional K9 partner.
Following his retirement, Vader spent his remaining years where he belonged — at home with his partner, Sgt. Scott Foster, and the Foster family. There, he enjoyed the comfort, affection, and companionship he had earned through years of faithful service. Though no longer wearing a badge, he remained a beloved member of the family and continued to bring joy to those around him.
On June 8, 2026, Vader, "Vay" as he was affectionately called, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. While his watch has ended, his legacy lives on in the lives he protected, the crimes he helped solve, the officers he served beside, and the family who cherished him.
K9 Vader will be remembered as a courageous partner, a loyal protector, and a faithful friend. His service was extraordinary, his devotion unwavering, and his impact immeasurable.
Rest easy, K9 Vader. Your watch is over. We will take it from here. Thank you for your service, your loyalty, and your sacrifice. You will never be forgotten.
The Foster family and the entire department welcome your kind words and memories in the comments below.
