As part of Governor Josh Stein School Supply Drive with State Employees' Credit Union, NC Department of Natural & Cultural Resources collected over 4,000 school supply items to donate to Caswell County public schools. Our team enjoyed meeting the faculty and students from South Elementary and Oakwood Elementary along with Caswell County Schools Superintendent Lance Stokes. Many teachers supply their classrooms using their own money and we are happy to help fill this need. Thank you to all of our employees who donated.

In honor of , we retraced the steps of Lewis & Clark's 1803 survey of the American West to see how wildlife has changed over two centuries of our country's history. Many places are dramatically different, while others still bear a resemblance to what these explorers described so many years ago.

Bob’s Creek State Natural Area, located in McDowell County 42 miles east of Asheville, has lots of sheltered coves and ravines, unique rock formations, and diverse natural ecosystems in the Foothills. Wire Pasture Access at is open!

Wire Pasture Access offers new ways to experience the Lumber River while honoring the Lumbee Tribe’s longstanding connection to the land. The celebration included remarks from DNCR Secretary Pam Cashwell, Lumber River State Park Superintendent Brett Godwin, Lumbee Tribal Administrator Ronnie Locklear, Robeson County Manager Kellie Blue and NC State Parks Director Brian Strong, along with an Honor Song and blessing of the land.

This collaboration between state and local partners and the Lumbee Tribe reflects our shared commitment to caring for this land for generations to come.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, helped make this project possible and contributed to the celebration, including the vendors who provided food, beverages and local crafts.

Governor Josh Stein announced the recipients of the 2026 North Carolina Awards. The state’s highest civilian honor will be presented to six distinguished North Carolinians on Nov. 17 at Raleigh’s Lenovo Center.

The ceremony will celebrate achievements in Literature, Public Service, Science, and Fine Arts, and will support military and veteran families through proceeds benefiting Blue Star Families and Camp Corral. Tickets are now available.
