BOIL WATER NOTICE:

BPU crews are currently working to repair a water main break in the area of E South Street and St. Joe Street.

Due to the water main break, a boil water advisory is being issued as a precaution for the following locations:

- All of E South Street
- W St. Joe Street from South Street to Griswold Street
- Griswold Street from South Street to Water Works Avenue
- All of Lakeview Court
- All of Waterworks Avenue

All affected addresses will also receive this notice via door hangers.

The boil water advisory will be in effect until two consecutive 24-hour tests come back clear. During this time, water for cooking or consumption should be boiled for at least 15 minutes. Water for bathing or laundry should not cause any problems, but temporary discoloration may be present. If experiencing discolored water, running your tap or faucet on cold for several minutes can help to flush your home lines.

BPU will notify customers when the water is safe to consume again. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. You may contact the BPU at 517-437-3387 with any questions.

PLANNED POWER OUTAGE FOR MAINTENANCE:

BPU Customers on W. Bacon Rd. Can Expect Brief Planned Power Outage the Morning of July 20

To complete necessary maintanence and improve system reliability, the Hillsdale Board of Public Utilities (BPU) will conduct a planned power outage on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to approximately 10:00 a.m. for customers on West Bacon Rd from Spring St past Bunn Rd.

Door hangers have been delivered to customers who will be affected by this planned outage.

We appreciate your patience as we complete this important work and apologize for the temporary inconvenience. Thank you for understanding.

POWER OUTAGE UPDATE (10:25PM on 7/4/26):

BPU crews have worked all day today making repairs across our electric system, and we can report that the vast majority of customers had their power restored at some point today.

At this time, we are down to a handful of smaller outage clusters, with the largest remaining area located on Reading Avenue between Frisbee Street and Hallett Street. In total, no more than approximately 60 customers remain without power.

We expect all remaining outages to be restored by tomorrow at the latest.

If you are still without power after 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, please call the BPU's emergency outage line at 1-844-427-8633 so we can verify your outage has been identified and assigned for restoration.

POWER OUTAGE UPDATE (7-4-26):

BPU crews worked throughout the night and remain hard at work this morning making repairs across the electric system.

We continue to face significant challenges. Earlier this morning, several feeders went offline, causing widespread outages across portions of downtown Hillsdale. Efforts to re-energize those circuits have been unsuccessful so far due to blown fuses, and crews are actively working to locate and repair those issues.

All available personnel are in the field, and mutual aid has been requested to help accelerate restoration efforts. We expect additional lineworkers from the City of Marshall to arrive and assist our crews.

We understand how frustrating extended outages are, and we sincerely appreciate your patience. Due to the extent of the remaining damage and the ongoing nature of repairs, we are unable to provide estimated restoration times at this point. Crews will continue working throughout the day—and for as long as necessary—until power has been restored to every customer.

POWER OUTAGE UPDATE (10:52 PM on 7/3/26):

Hillsdale Board of Public Utilities (BPU) crews remain in the field assessing damage and making repairs to primary distribution lines throughout our service territory.

There are currently numerous outages across the BPU electric system from this evening's storm, with damage more widespread than initially apparent. The storm took down many trees and branches across the greater Hillsdale area.

As primary line repairs are completed, many customers are expected to have power restored. However, smaller isolated outage areas will take additional time to reach as crews work through repairs in a safe and systematic manner.

Our crews will continue working until service has been restored to all customers as quickly and safety as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding as they work through the night, and into tomorrow, if necessary, to restore power.

It's another hot day, which means electric demand will be on the rise.

But high temperatures don't have to mean high utility bills. Here are some simple ways you can reduce your energy use while staying cool and comfortable:

🔌 Unplug appliances and devices not in use — especially during peak hours (11AM-7PM)

🌬️ Use ceiling or standing fans in conjunction with air conditioning. You can set your thermostat at a higher temperature but still feel just as cool.

🏡 Close blinds or curtains during the hottest part of the day. They block more sunlight and heat than you would think.

🧺 Save laundry for morning or evening. Hang laundry on a clothesline to dry outdoors if possible.

POWER OUTAGE (6-29-26):

***UPDATE (12:12AM): Incoming transmission feed has been restored. All customers should have power back on at this time. Anyone still experiencing an issue should call the BPU’s after-hours emergency line (1-844-427-8633).***

The Hillsdale Board of Public Utilities is currently experiencing a system-wide power outage after losing the incoming transmission feed from the Moore Road Substation that serves the city.

Crews are working to bring our internal generation online to restore power to our system while we coordinate with Consumers Energy to restore the incoming transmission feed.

NOTICE OF UPCOMING POWER INTERRUPTION ON 6/29/26:

The Hillsdale Board of Public Utilities (BPU) will be performing a scheduled load switch on Monday, June 29, at approximately 6:00 a.m.

Customers served by Feeder 12, including all of the businesses in the Hillsdale Manufacturing & Technology Park and nearby locations along E. Carleton Rd (M-99) including Meijer, Aldi, & Silo's Fun Park, will experience a momentary power interruption while the switch is completed.

While the interruption should only last a brief moment, it may cause computers, machinery, and other electronic equipment to restart. Please plan accordingly if you have sensitive equipment in operation.

BPU Requests Electric Customers to Voluntarily Reduce Energy Consumption

Hillsdale Board of Public Utilities (BPU) electric customers are being asked to voluntarily lower electricity use from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26 – Wednesday, May 27.

These recommended Community Energy Savings Days come as the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), which oversees the power grid in Michigan and 14 other U.S. states, is forecasting a seasonal capacity peak and zonal monthly transmission peak today and tomorrow as temperatures across the MISO grid continue to rise. Communities in our MISO region have been encouraged to begin planning for peak shaving.

It's important to know that BPU currently has ample power to meet customer demand—there is no risk of power outages. Rather, this is an opportunity for the community to voluntarily work together to reduce our load, which will allow BPU to save money on future capacity and transmission costs, helping keep rates low for all our customers.

Whatever simple actions you can take to conserve electricity for a few hours today and tomorrow can help make a big difference.
