NEW BOROUGH HALL OFFICE HOURS PLUS ADDED HOURS TO RECYCLING CENTER

As part of our ongoing effort to improve customer service for our residents, we have reviewed our current operating hours and staffing schedules and are making adjustments to better accommodate the needs and schedules of our residents.

We received feedback from contractors indicating that many prefer to visit Borough Hall early in the morning to obtain permits and complete necessary paperwork before heading to their job sites. At the same time, residents have expressed a need for extended evening hours so they can conduct Borough business after work, and more access to our recycling center.

As part of our review, we analyzed historical visitor traffic at Borough Hall and found that Friday afternoon visits have consistently been minimal. In contrast, early morning and extended evening hours have been among the most utilized and preferred times for both residents and contractors.

The revised schedule is designed to better align our operating hours with the needs of the community while maintaining efficient staffing and ensuring that our offices remain adequately covered throughout the day. Our goal is simple: provide better access, improve customer service, and make it more convenient for residents and contractors to conduct business with the Borough.

PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT

The Hillsdale Police Department is advising residents of a black bear sighting on the west side of town in the area of Ann Blanche Smith School.

Animal Control has been notified and is responding. Residents in the area are advised to remain indoors if possible and do not approach or attempt to follow the bear. Please keep children and pets inside.

Memorial Field is an Active Construction Zone!

Memorial Field is currently an active construction site, and for everyone’s safety, the field is closed to the public. Walking your dog or entering the field while construction is underway is not only prohibited, but also unsafe and irresponsible.

Please respect the restrictions and stay off Memorial Field until construction is complete and the field is officially reopened. Please also be advised that dogs will not be permitted on the field once it reopens.

Borough of Hillsdale Awarded $381,000 NJDEP Grant for New All-Electric Street Sweeper

HILLSDALE, NJ – The Borough of Hillsdale is excited to announce that it has been awarded a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) grant of up to $381,000 to purchase a new Class 8 all-electric street sweeper and a Level 2 charging station. The grant will allow the Borough to replace its aging diesel-powered street sweeper with a cleaner, more efficient vehicle at no cost to local taxpayers.

The new electric street sweeper can operate for up to eight hours on a single charge and will recharge overnight, ensuring it is ready for service each morning.

The Borough's goal is to have the street sweeper delivered and in service as soon as possible, providing residents with improved service and a cleaner environment.

Beyond serving Hillsdale, the new street sweeper creates another opportunity to expand shared services with neighboring municipalities. Revenue generated from those partnerships can be dedicated toward replacing aging Borough vehicles and equipment, helping to modernize the fleet while reducing costs for taxpayers.

Mayor Michael Sheinfield praised the efforts of DPW Superintendent Barry Peterson for pursuing the grant opportunity.
"Barry (DPW Superintendent Barry Peterson) recognized this opportunity, worked diligently through the application process, and secured a tremendous win for our community," said Mayor Sheinfield. "A $381,000 grant with no local match is an outstanding accomplishment. This investment not only replaces outdated equipment with modern technology but also positions Hillsdale to expand shared services and generate revenue that can be reinvested into our community.”

The Borough remains committed to pursuing grants and partnerships that enhance municipal services, improve operational efficiency, and deliver long-term value for Hillsdale taxpayers.
