We have been notified by County Highway that Base Line Rd, Dana/Quaker, Indiana area that runs west to the IL stateline will be closed later today for culvert repair. Road is expected to be closed 2-3 days. This road is located just north of County Rd 100 North and west of State Rd 71.

County wide burn ban has been rescinded. Reminder state and federal regulations must still be observed for controlled burns. Burns must be attended at all times and immediate water source available.

UPDATE: ROAD HAS BEEN CLEARED

We've been notified of tree down on State Rd 71 near 150S near Dana, Indiana. INDOT has a crew enroute. Please use extreme caution near this area or use an alternate route.

Clinton Man Arrested for Murder

Vermillion County – Vermillion County Sheriff Mike Holtcamp requested detectives from the Indiana State Police (ISP) Putnamville Post investigate a missing person case reported on October 5, 2025, in Clinton, Indiana.

During the course of the investigation, Putnamville detectives uncovered criminal activity, determining that the missing person had been murdered. This led to the arrest of Nicholas Yates, age 20, of Clinton, Indiana.

Yates was taken into custody without incident and is being held at the Vermilion County Jail. Currently, the name of the deceased is not being released until a positive identification is made by the Vermillion County Coroner’s Office. This process may take several weeks.

The investigation is being conducted by ISP detectives Colton Maynor, Don Curtis, James Crisp, and CSI Sergeant Tim Rader of the Putnamville State Police Post.

Assisting Agencies: Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department, Conservation Officers of the Department of Natural Resources, and the Vermillion County Coroner’s Office.

This is an active and ongoing Indiana State Police investigation. There is no further information to release at this time.

Arrested and Charges: Nicholas Yates, 20, Clinton, IN

Murder

Under the law, criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Vermillion County Highway Dept. advised that County Rd 1450 South between County Rd 100 West and 50 West will be closed for culvert repair.

County Highway has advised that they will have County Rd 100 North west of State Rd 63 closed today for paving. First responder/Emergency vehicle traffic will be granted access for emergency responses.
