The Hillsdale Volunteer Ambulance Service provides 100% free emergency medical response to Hillsdale residents and surrounding communities on a mutual aid basis 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our emergency calls can include: Cardiac arrests, strokes, automobile/motorcycle accidents, OB/GYN emergencies, allergic reactions, falls, diabetic emergencies, seizures, choking, high fever, flu, etc. We r

espond with unwavering resolve and we rapidly jump up to help our neighbors and protect the public – 24 hours per day/7 days per week, all as volunteers. We continue to be one of the busiest single ambulance agencies in the area with our call volume averaging 900 emergency requests in addition to countless standbys and special events! In 2020, we are celebrating our 66th year of service to Hillsdale and our surrounding Pascack Valley Community! Generations later, we’re still here looking out for all of our residents and visitors to the area alike. And as always, we have never billed a patient for our services. We DO NOT receive any Federal funding, so our volunteers can only continue to provide free pre-hospital care to you, your family and friends, and your neighbors because of your generous donations. We are an independent non-profit entity and, as such, we rely heavily on your support to fund our ambulance, equipment, training, and operating expenses. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to serving you and your families for years to come!

Today our crew attended the Family Fun Day at the Farm sponsored by Stew Leonard’s, Demarest Farms and Farmlind Produce! This is the first of two big events at the farm for this weekend!

The event was held to help support swim lessons for underprivileged children from Stewie the Duck swim schools. Unfortunately, drowning is the leading cause of death in children under the age of 4. Stew Leonard’s Water Safety Foundation is trying to reduce that number and will use the funds raised today to help meet that goal!

We hope you will join us at Sunday morning’s Emergency Services Special Olympics 5K! Come out for a great cause, meet our members and help make a difference in the world!

Yesterday, members of the Hillsdale Ambulance supported the efforts of the Hillsdale Police Department and other local agencies as they proudly participated in the 43rd Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New Jersey.

The Torch Run is a statewide event that brings together law enforcement officers and community members to raise awareness and support for Special Olympics athletes. Officers carry the “Flame of Hope” through communities across New Jersey, symbolizing courage, inclusion, and the unwavering spirit of the athletes they serve.

We were honored to be asked to support this wonderful tradition and stand alongside our fellow first responders in support of Special Olympics New Jersey.

Special thanks to for capturing these pictures and sharing them with the community.

In the early morning hours of June 3rd, at approximately 00:55 AM, Hillsdale Ambulance Service was requested by the Hillsdale Fire Department to respond to a reported dwelling fire on Piermont Avenue.
Upon arrival, our duty crew established EMS Branch and immediately began the evaluation and treatment of six patients affected by the incident. Due to the scale of the response, mutual aid EMS agencies were requested to assist with patient care and transport, including Rivervale Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Hackensack EMS (BLS/ALS), Westwood Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Old Tappan Volunteer First Aid Corps, and Emerson Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Following the transport of patients to local hospitals, Hillsdale Ambulance Service and our mutual aid partners remained on scene for approximately three additional hours, providing firefighter rehabilitation and medical monitoring to crews operating at the fire.
We would like to thank all responding agencies for their professionalism, teamwork, and dedication to serving our communities during this incident.

Happy EMS Week! Day 7: EMS Remembrance Day 🚑❤️

Today, we honor and remember the EMS personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Additionally, today we came together with and to partake in the NJ leg of the 50 states, 50 days, 500 miles military mental health public awareness campaign and fundraiser. Former member Jake Prusha and current EMT Bella Zimmerman and HPD Sgt Dave Sayers organized today’s run to bring the community together to support this worthy cause. EMS Remembrance Day serves as a time to reflect on the courage, dedication, and selflessness shown by providers who devoted their lives to serving others. The same is true for all of our devoted military service men and women that paid the ultimate sacrifice either in battle or through the mental battles they fought after returning home.

Every call answered represents a commitment to helping those in need, often in difficult and unpredictable circumstances. We recognize the sacrifices made not only by these responders and service members, but also by their families, friends, and fellow providers who continue to carry their memory forward.

Today and every day, we remember their service, their compassion, and their lasting impact on the communities they served and on their service to this country.

Happy EMS Week! Day 6: EMS Recognition Day 🚑❤️

Today, we would like to recognize the incredible support and partnership of the Hillsdale Police Department and Hillsdale Fire Department, who work tirelessly alongside us to help keep Hillsdale safe every day. No matter the call, they are always ready to respond with professionalism, dedication, and teamwork.

We would also like to thank all of our surrounding mutual aid partners in EMS, fire, and law enforcement. Your willingness to respond when needed, support neighboring agencies, and work together as one team does not go unnoticed. The strength of our community comes from the collaboration and dedication shared between departments every single day.

Hillsdale is a safer place because of your commitment to serving others, and we are grateful to work alongside you each day. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to continuing to serve the Hillsdale community together!

Happy EMS Week! Day 5: Save a Life Day 🚑❤️

Today highlights the lifesaving impact of CPR, AED use, and bleeding control education within our communities. In emergencies like cardiac arrest or severe bleeding, immediate action by bystanders can make all the difference before first responders arrive.

At HVAS, our volunteers are trained to respond quickly and confidently in high-pressure situations, but we also believe these are skills everyone should have. Learning CPR and Stop the Bleed techniques empowers ordinary people to step in during extraordinary moments and potentially save a life.

Whether it’s recognizing the signs of cardiac arrest, providing high-quality chest compressions, using an AED, or controlling severe bleeding, early intervention saves lives every day.

We encourage everyone in our community to take the time to become CPR certified and learn basic bleeding control skills. If you are interested in becoming CPR certified, learning more about Stop the Bleed training, or joining HVAS, please reach out to us!

Happy EMS Week! Day 4: EMS for Children Day 🚑❤️

Today we recognize the importance of pediatric emergency care and the specialized prehospital tools, training, and compassion needed to care for children during emergencies.

At HVAS, supporting the youngest members of our community goes far beyond emergency calls. Our volunteers stay active throughout the town by giving ambulance tours, visiting preschool and elementary school classes, and participating in community events so children can become familiar with our faces and feel more comfortable around EMS providers during emergencies.

We also proudly support our members and future EMS professionals still in high school by attending football games on standby, supporting big fundraisers like car washes, and encouraging those pursuing EMT classes and healthcare careers.

Whether it’s in an emergency, at a community event, or in a classroom, we are always here for our community and its next generation. Thank you to all EMS professionals who help care for and protect children every day.

If you are interested in joining HVAS or learning more about what we do, please reach out to us!
