From the Fire Chief: Captain Dustan Green has made the decision to step down as captain. He made this hard decision based on his full-time career and family changes over the last year. Green has served in the rank of Captain for over four years and redefined what that role means to this department by helping implement our current SOG’s and helping lay the foundation in the more modern fire ground tactics we use today. Green also currently serves on the Fire Board of Directors and will continue his work there as he also stays on as a Senior Firefighter for Hilltop Lakes VFD. Thank you, Dustan!

LT Dustin Griggs’s has been promoted to Captain. Captain Griggs has completely elevated our training program to meet and often times exceed state level Firefighter 1 requirements and has brought a consistent and valuable leadership style to the entire department. Griggs is the first to show up and the last to leave on training nights to ensure all questions are answered and everyone leaves better than they showed up. Congratulations Captain Griggs.

We thank both these gentlemen for the service to our community and selfless dedication over the years!

Our Hilltop Firefighters responded to Robertson County to assist with a grass fire and structure fire today. Not pictured ( because they were fighting the grass fire) are David and C**t Kauffman. Our firefighters were some of the many responders who worked this incident in 102 degree weather, we are proud to offer our neighbors a helping hand whenever necessary!

As a small agency operating one 24/7 ambulance with an annual call volume under 400, experience is essential for our clinicians, who must deliver high-quality care to the citizens of SW Leon County ESD No. 2 and surrounding areas. Our team utilizes an O-Two mechanical ventilator, Sapphire infusion pump, Lucas Device, and Zoll X Series monitor, with transport times ranging from 30-55 minutes.
Pay is Depending on qualifications and experience. A Full-Time opportunity is also possible depending on qualifications and experience.

The fire environment is undergoing a temporary improvement in fuel moisture and decreased fire weather; however, conditions will degrade Sunday into next week with the return of triple digit heat, critically dry surface fuels, and increased wind speeds.

On Thursday, a weak cold front will gradually move south through Texas, generating chances for precipitation and cloud cover, which will temporarily pause fuel drying and fire weather. The front could generate high-based isolated storms which could produce gusty outflow winds and lightning ignitions where underlying dryness remains across North Texas, Cross Timbers, Rolling Plains, Western and Eastern Hill Country, and Central Texas. Dry fuels and elevated fire weather in South Texas will create moderate potential for initial attack fires.

Friday, the weak cold front will lift out of Texas and precipitation chances will end. On Saturday high pressure builds back over Texas, and a tightening gradient will generate winds 15-20 mph across the High Plains. Initial attack potential will remain moderate in East Texas due to underlying dryness and dry surface fuel. Resistance to control should remain low to moderate with lack of significant fire weather trigger.

Next week above-normal temperatures and dry weather will increase the volume of fires. A quick rebound to extremely dry fuels and elevated fire weather could return the potential for significant fires in high-risk fuels in the Rolling Plains, Cross Timbers, and Eastern Hill Country fuels beginning Sunday and persisting next week.
