April showers bring May flowers… and a few recycling reminders! 🌷♻️

Some common spring cleanup items can seriously jam recycling equipment and create safety hazards for workers. These items DO NOT belong in your curbside recycling bin:

❌Hoses
❌Ropes
❌Chains
❌Tarps
❌Propane Tanks
❌Batteries

“Tanglers” like hoses, ropes, and chains can wrap around equipment, causing costly damage and dangerous working conditions. Batteries and propane tanks can spark fires or explode if crushed. When in doubt, keep it out!

While plant pots and trays don't belong in your recycling bin either, many farmers markets and gardening organizations like Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County accept plant pots for reuse!

For 20 years, Causewave has served as the backbone organization behind H2O Hero, supporting a community-driven commitment to protecting our water.

Alongside dedicated partners, Causewave has helped advance H2O Hero’s mission to promote water conservation, prevent pollution, and engage our community around clean water issues. Through strategic outreach, education, and collaboration, H2O Hero has become a trusted resource for environmental awareness.

From the Rochester Embayment being delisted as an EPA Area of Concern, to the successful reintroduction of sturgeon in the Genesee River (managed by Seneca Park Zoo), to community-informed water quality research and regional showcases of green infrastructure at RMSC, this work has led to meaningful impact.

At the core of this partnership is a commitment to ensuring diverse voices are included, valued, and reflected in the work we do. H20 Hero remains focused on building inclusive programs and partnerships that meet the needs of all communities we serve.
