Did you know… There is a medication disposal box in the Hinckley Police Department lobby, available 24/7?

In partnership with the Medina County Drug Task Force and funded by the Medina County Anti-Drug Levy, the Medina County D.U.M.P. Program (Dispose of Unwanted Medicine Properly) provides residents with a safe, easy way to dispose of unwanted medications for destruction - no questions asked.

It is recommended that you remove any labels containing identifying information, or use a Sharpie to cover them. Place your pills, powders, or capsules in a Ziploc bag and drop them in the box. That’s it.

NO SYRINGES OR LIQUIDS, PLEASE.

PRESS RELEASE

On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at approximately 2136 hours, officers with the Hinckley Police Department were dispatched to a residence for a report of a domestic violence incident. Responding officers were advised that one of the two victims, both adult relatives of the suspect, had been abducted by the suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Darren Mileto. Mileto had left the residence in the victim's vehicle with the victim.

The remaining victim had multiple visible injuries and told officers that Mileto had taken both victims' cell phones, preventing them from calling for help. The victim who was abducted had been threatened with harm if they did not get into the vehicle with Mileto. After the vehicle left the residence, the remaining victim went to a neighbor's home to call for assistance.

Information about the suspect, victim, and vehicle was shared with area law enforcement agencies. The suspect vehicle was later located in Streetsboro, Ohio. The Streetsboro Police Department was requested to stop and detain Mileto, and check on the victim's safety. When officers attempted to make contact, Mileto fled from the vehicle on foot and was not immediately located. The victim was found with minor injuries and treated at the scene.

At approximately 0431 hours on Wednesday, August 12, Mileto returned to the victim's residence in Hinckley. The victim secured themselves in a room and remained on the phone with dispatch while officers responded. Mileto's location was unknown.

With the assistance of the Medina County Sheriff's Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Montville Police Department, the property was surrounded. Mileto was subsequently located inside a detached garage and taken into custody without further incident.

Mileto was booked into the Medina County Jail on multiple felony charges. One of the two victims remains hospitalized for their injuries.

This incident remains under investigation. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

Did you know... Hinckley Township contracts with the Medina County Sheriff's Office for Police & Fire dispatch services?

The Medina County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) Dispatch Center is one of four Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) in Medina County, along with Brunswick City, Medina City, and Wadsworth City. MCSO serves as the county's primary wireless 9-1-1 PSAP, handling all incoming wireless 9-1-1 calls countywide. They dispatch for seven police departments and twelve fire departments throughout Medina County.

We wanted to share this because it has occasionally caused confusion when residents call the Hinckley Police Department at 330-278-7161. This primary number connects directly to the MCSO Dispatch Center, so the dispatcher may answer, "Medina County Sheriff's Office." This is normal and is the correct number to call 24 hours a day to report an incident, request a police officer, or seek emergency assistance.

Our administrative phone number, 330-278-7162, rings directly into the Hinckley Police Department at 1410 Ridge Road. If you call after hours, when our administrative staff is gone and officers are out on patrol, your call may not be answered, and you may be directed to leave a voicemail. If you need to report an incident or request an officer, simply select the appropriate menu option to be transferred to MCSO Dispatch, or call 330-278-7161.

In the event of an emergency, always call 9-1-1.
