Every summer tells a story — and the books our students choose become part of it!

Research shows that students who read regularly over the summer return to school with stronger skills, greater confidence, and a deeper love of learning. But beyond academics, reading gives children something just as important: a chance to slow down, imagine, wonder, and explore.

The Medina County District Library Summer Reading Challenge is the perfect way to keep that momentum going. Families can sign up together, choose books that match their interests, and enjoy fun events and rewards throughout the summer.

Whether it’s a graphic novel, a mystery, a picture book, or a nonfiction deep dive — every page helps students grow.

On Saturday, the Medina County Library kicked off its summer reading program with over 600 students signing up! We cannot wait to hear about the AMAZING book adventures our students took this summer!

On Friday, June 5, Ax Ohio Tax announced that it failed to collect enough signatures to place their constitutional amendment proposal to eliminate all Ohio property taxes on the November 2026 ballot. The group has vowed to continue its efforts and will now attempt to place the issue before voters in November 2027.

Ohio law requires petitioners to file valid signatures equal to ten percent of the vote from the most recent gubernatorial election, which currently totals over 413,000 signatures. Although signatures do not expire, many are typically invalidated during the verification process; consequently, the committee is seeking at least 620,000 signatures.

This scanner is like nothing you've seen before. Our Family History & Learning Center won a $100,000 federal grant in 2025 - funding this Copibook A2 scanner and the staff time to partner with local historical societies. Staff are examining these unique collections, digitizing content, and posting to the Medina County Memory Project. ( https://medinacountymemory.mcdl.info/ )

The scanner is gentle on bindings and delicate papers, scans multiple items simultaneously, and saves images as individual files. The scanner takes the talents of our staff and the content of partner collections to the next level.

This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation's libraries and museums. To learn more, visit www.imls.gov of Museum and Library Services Library Council

OFCA joins Ohioans to Protect Public Services, a broad-based coalition of more than 65 organizations including representatives of police, fire, emergency medical services and more. The coalition was formed to explain the serious consequences of eliminating all property taxes on homes and businesses, with no plan to replace the revenue — which multiple experts say would trigger big increases in income and sales taxes, massive cuts in essential local public services, or a combination of both. For more information, visit https://www.protectpublicservices.org.
