VA Hospital is located 12 miles west of downtown Chicago on a 147-acre campus. The Hospital offers primary, extended and specialty care to Veterans who primarily live in Cook, DuPage and Will Counties in Illinois. Hines Specialized clinical programs at the hospital include Blind Rehabilitation, Spinal Cord Injury, Neurosurgery, Radiation Therapy and Cardiovascular Surgery. Hines is authorized to o
perate close to 500 inpatient beds, including 199 nursing home beds. The Hospital also runs six community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) in Manteno, Hoffman Estates, Oak Lawn, Aurora, LaSalle, and Joliet.

Happy 100th Birthday Pfc. Bernie Bluestein! - Our Hoffman Estates CBOC celebrated Bernie’s century of life with a special party for the World War II Veteran and his family.
Pfc. Bluestein was part of the U.S. Army’s ‘Ghost Army,’ They used rubber tanks, fake planes, sound effects and other deception techniques to trick N**i forces of Allied locations. He is one of less than five remaining Ghost Soldiers and will be honored with the Congressional Gold Medal for his service this November.

The La Salle Community Based Outpatient Clinic is at the forefront in the fight against Veteran food insecurity. Since May, the La Salle VA CBOC staff have planted, watered, and harvested a 500-square-foot vegetable patch for food-insecure Veterans, the first of 's CBOCs to do so.

We’d like to extend our gratitude to the Gary Sinise Foundation for their support of our 75th anniversary celebration and open house for the oldest blind rehab center in the VA.
Since opening on July 4, 1948, BRC has trained approximately 10,000 and currently serves around 300 Veteran patients annually. It is credited with developing a curriculum that helped build the foundation for the modern care of visually impaired individuals and with perfecting the long white cane by the American Foundation for the Blind.
We held a 75th anniversary ceremony and open house earlier this week to celebrate this milestone.

Today is our 100th Anniversary! The campus was originally known as U.S. Public Health Service Hospital Number 76, and was popularly referred to as Speedway Hospital or Broadview Hospital. In honor of Edward Hines Jr., on October 24, 1921, President Warren G. Harding declared that the facility was to be renamed to Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital. It was the first American veterans hospital to be named after a person. Please join us Hines family and friends for a special and heartfelt commemoration of Hines' 100 years of Veteran care. This is truly a celebration of a once in a lifetime milestone of one of the oldest and largest VA Hospitals in the Nation.
