Hinesville, Liberty County, GA (August 29, 2026) - At the request of the Hinesville Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Hinesville, GA. Cashane Cadeem Calder, age 31, of Hinesville, GA, was shot and injured in the incident. No officers were injured.

⚠️ ROADWAY SAFETY ALERT – STANDING WATER ⚠️

Due to the heavy rainfall we are experiencing, water is beginning to cross several roadways off of Charles C. Frasier Blvd, and some roads may become impassable.

If you encounter water covering the roadway, DO NOT attempt to drive through it. Turn around and find an alternate route. Water can be deeper and moving faster than it appears, and roadway conditions beneath the water may be compromised.

Please use caution while traveling, reduce your speed, and allow additional time to reach your destination.

We have our officers out closing roadways by placing cones across roadways that they deem unsafe to travel on.

Please do not drive around barricades or other traffic-control devices.

Stay safe and avoid flooded roadways.

Welcome to Week Two of Citizens’ Academy!

This week, our participants had the opportunity to tour the 911 Center and learn more about the important role emergency communications play in keeping our community safe.

Ms. Cortez shared valuable information about the dos and don’ts when dialing 911, as well as tips for being an effective communicator during an emergency.

We would like to thank Ms. Cortez and staff for their time and hospitality.

We then transitioned into Criminal Law & Procedure, giving our participants a closer look at the laws and procedures that guide law enforcement.

Another great week of learning, asking questions, and gaining a better understanding of the work behind the badge!

Tomorrow, August 25, South Main Street near Veterans Parkway will be reduced to one lane under traffic control while crews install a stormwater crossing. The lane reduction will be from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Hinesville Police Department officers are currently investigating reports of gunfire at the Walmart Supercenter.

At this time, there are no known injuries and no known ongoing threat to the public. Officers are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the reports.

Out of an abundance of caution, we ask that the public avoid the area if possible and allow officers to safely conduct their investigation.

Additional information will be provided as it becomes available and/or necessary.

Recognizing a True Community Champion ❤️

Sometimes, the best way to recognize someone is simply to listen to the people whose lives they have touched.

Today, we want to recognize Barbara Carratala-Olsen and the positive impact she has made on those around her.

The heartfelt comments shared about Barbara speak volumes. One person expressed how much she loves her and how Barbara made sure she was doing well throughout her pregnancy while she worked at the police department. Another shared that “all bus drivers love her,” while others spoke about how seeing Barbara’s smile can make a difficult morning just a little better.

Happy Girl Scout Friendship Day! 💚🍦

Yesterday, our troop celebrated with a fun ice cream social and movie night filled with laughter, friendship, and sweet treats! It was a wonderful evening spent making memories together.

We were also excited to welcome two new Scouts to our troop! We are so happy to have you as part of our Girl Scout family.

We can’t wait to see what this new scouting year has in store. Here’s to another season of learning, leadership, service, and lifelong friendships!
