United Way of the Coastal Empire - Liberty and Long County Our mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of a community. Thanks to Hershel V.

Jenkins and his generosity, we are 1 of only 4 United Ways in the nation with 100% of our administration and fundraising costs covered by the trust he established more than 70 years ago. Today, on International Literacy Day, we’re celebrating the power of reading and our commitment to helping every child build the literacy skills they need to learn, grow, and succeed.

Through programs like Read United, we’re working alongside students, volunteers, and community partners to create brighter futures, one reader at a time. Because when children can read, they can dream bigger and go further. Learn more about our work at uwce.info/read-united

We had a great site visit today with Diana, our Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia coordinator!

She spent some time connecting with our Regional Program Manager, Jessica, and even discovered a fun connection along the way…they’re both from Puerto Rico! 🇵🇷

Thank you, Second Harvest, for your continued partnership and support! We are just two weeks away from kicking things off! 🎒🚗

And the spotlight continues! 🔦🌟

Last week, we had the opportunity to visit Liberty College & Career Academy for another kickoff visit and connect with local educators. They’re doing incredible work to prepare our students for success beyond the classroom!

We also wrapped up the week with a great conversation at Liberty Regional Medical Center about how they’d like to get involved. We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect and explore what’s possible together.

Weeks like this remind us that it all matters—and everyone has a part to play in making our community stronger. 🤝

There’s a lot that happens before a backpack ever makes it into a student’s hands. 🎒💛

Today, we met with Liberty County School System social workers to prepare for another Backpack Buddies season. We talked through needs, partnerships, and how we can best support students.

We also brought a special delivery of school supplies for the people on the front lines supporting our students every day. ✏️📚

While today’s meeting was with our Liberty County partners, Backpack Buddies is preparing to serve students across Liberty County, Long County, and Fort Stewart.

This work is possible because our community comes together.

One backpack. One weekend. One student at a time. ✨

The spotlight is shining bright! ✨🔦

Today, we kicked off our United Way campaign with an incredible group of educators at Frank Long Elementary School—and we couldn’t have asked for a better start!

These conversations are about more than numbers. They’re about shining a spotlight on the needs in our community, the people doing the work, and the lives changed when we choose to give, serve, and show up.

And today, we got to see just how powerful it is when a room full of people comes together with one goal: to make a difference. ❤️

We’re just getting started. ✨Tag where we should go next!
