Weir River Farm staff recently had an exciting wildlife sighting—a coyote exploring the pastures! It’s a wonderful reminder that this special place is home to a rich variety of native wildlife. Coyotes play an important role in our local ecosystem, helping maintain balance by keeping populations of rodents and other small animals in balance.

While sightings aren’t frequent, these elusive animals are longtime residents of the farm, and staff do spot them from time to time. People and coyotes coexist peacefully here—coyotes typically avoid humans and prefer to keep their distance. That said, it’s always wise to stay aware of your surroundings while enjoying the trails.

A few quick tips for coexisting with coyotes:
- Keep young children close and within sight
- Ensure pets are leashed and attended at all times
- Give wildlife plenty of space—never approach or feed them

Moments like these are a great reminder of the vibrant natural world all around us. Keep your eyes open—you never know what you might spot (from a safe distance, of course)! 👀

You never know what delightful moments you’ll find in the barnyard! Recently, one of our chickens decided the perfect place to perch was right on a goat’s back.

Scenes like this highlight the unique personalities of our animals and the fun, curious relationships they form. Goats are naturally social and curious, while chickens are always on the lookout for a good vantage point—sometimes even if it means hitching a ride!

Next time you visit, take a moment to slow down and observe the barnyard—you might catch a bit of farmyard magic like this for yourself. 💛

Hull Firefly Storytelling is back at Weir River Farm! Join us tomorrow, Tuesday, May 26, for Hull FireFly Storytelling! Modeled after The Moth Story Hour on NPR radio, this live storytelling program invites participants to share a 3-5 minute, true story, spoken to an assembled group of friends, family and strangers. Feel free to share a story of your own or sit back and enjoy the stories of others as the magic of live storytelling transforms strangers into a community of acquaintances and friends.

Hull FireFly Storytelling was created with the mission of welcoming any and all to come, share, listen, and learn first-hand that there is more we share in common than that separates us. Started in 2015 by Dennis Zaia, a former Hingham School Teacher and resident of Hull, this event has grown from a small circle to a large following of intrepid spirits willing to tell 3- 5 minutes stories ranging from deeply personal to laugh-out-loud funny. Some of the previous themes have been; Family, Gratitude, Transformation, Silver Linings, My Most Embarrassing Moment.

We’ll gather outside at Weir River Farm where our view will overlook the farm pastures with the Boston skyline and Hingham harbor in the distance. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, a picnic dinner or snacks, and a drink of your choice and enjoy stories under the evening sky.

The theme for this Hull FireFly Storytelling is “I REMEMBER IT WELL." Share a true story to inform, to inspire and to entertain some new friends – or just sit back and listen! Speakers are limited to 3-5 minutes.

For more information or to register, visit: https://thetrustees.org/event/446544/

135 years ago, a simple idea took root: That special places should be protected - not by a few, but by a community, and preserved for public use and enjoyment.

Since 1891, that community of Members has been you.

Today, we celebrate Founder's Day and the generations of Members who have made this work possible. Thank you for being part of this story.
