The South Shore Regional Emergency Communications Center has been a proud supporter of Massachusetts TERT since its inception just a few short years ago. We've watched the team grow into an invaluable resource for PSAPs across the Commonwealth, providing trained telecommunicators who are ready to assist fellow dispatchers when they need it most.

We are especially proud of our own SSRECC dispatchers who have answered the call to serve as TERT members. Time and again, they have been willing to deploy with little notice, leaving the comfort of home to support PSAPs throughout the state in times of extraordinary need. Their willingness to step up reflects the very best of our profession, service, teamwork, resilience, and compassion.

Emergency communications is a family, and Massachusetts TERT is a shining example of what can be accomplished when we stand together to support one another.

Thank you to every TERT member, coordinator, and supporting agency that has helped build this remarkable program. We look forward to continuing to support the mission and the dedicated professionals who make it possible.

20 Deployments. Countless Hours. One Mission.

This week, the Massachusetts Telecommunicator Emergency Response Taskforce (MA TERT) reached an incredible milestone: 20 deployments since our inception.

What began as an idea to support our fellow telecommunicators during their most difficult moments has grown into a statewide network of dedicated professionals who answer the call when agencies need them most.

Over the past 20 deployments, MA TERT members have:
✅Provided staffing relief following line-of-duty deaths and other critical incidents.
✅ Allowed dispatchers to attend funeral services, debriefings, and take the time they needed to care for themselves and one another.
✅ Traveled across the Commonwealth, often with little notice, to support agencies during some of their hardest days.
✅ Demonstrated the true meaning of professionalism, compassion, and service.

These deployments represent far more than a number. They represent hundreds of volunteers, thousands of hours of coverage, and an unwavering commitment to ensuring no communications center has to face tragedy alone.

To every MA TERT member, Team Lead, participating agency, and the families who support our volunteers, thank you. Your willingness to step up for one another continues to make this program a success.

As we mark our 20th deployment in Northborough, we remain committed to the mission that started it all: telecommunicators supporting telecommunicators.

Please see this important update from the Norwell Police Department

*Update: As of 2:00pm on 7/9, all of the water available today has been received by residents. There will be more water available tomorrow for residents that did not receive water today. We will share more information for tomorrow when available. Thank you*

The Town of Norwell will be distributing bottled water today from noon to 3:00pm at the Norwell High School. Up to two cases per household. Please share.

As we celebrate 250 years of American independence, we’re proud to honor the history, courage, and community spirit that have shaped our nation and the communities of Cohasset, Hingham, Hull, and Norwell that we are privileged to serve.

While our communities celebrate with family, friends, cookouts, parades, and fireworks, our dispatchers and first responders remain ready around the clock to answer the call.

From the revolutionary spirit of 1776 to the service of today, we are proud to continue Powering Community • Serving Together.

On April 8, 2026, Emergency Telecommunicator Elizabeth Maguire, while off duty, was driving through the Town of Pembroke when she spotted what appeared to be an out of control brush fire behind a house. She quickly realized the fire was moving aggressively and threatening a nearby house. She stopped and immediately exited the vehicle and made her way to the house to warn the residents. She was greeted by an older male and quickly realized he was not going to be able to manage this situation on his own. She attempted to guide the resident through calling 911 but the male could not locate his cell phone, and hers was still in the vehicle. Inevitably they were able to make the 911 call for help.

Per open burning rules & regulations, the resident did have a hose extended to back yard. Unfortunately the outside water faucet had not been turned back on after the winter. She quickly obtained the location of the shut off and entered the basement of the house to turn it on. While in the house, she twisted and injured her ankle. Even though she was injured, she continued on and successfully got the water to the exterior faucet turned on. In her attempt to exit the basement with the injury she was greeted and assisted by Pembroke Police. Telecommunicator Maguire was evaluated by Pembroke Medics and did require ambulance transport to the ER for treatment of her injury. Even though she is still recovering from the injury, she continues to show up for her shift day after day. I feel Telecommunicator Maguire’s years of experience and training as 911 dispatcher played a critical role in her ability to identify the seriousness of the situation, recognize the physical limitations of the resident and quickly enact a plan to get help, secure the residents safety and ultimately prevent further damage to property until fire fighters arrived. I feel her actions deserve recognition as she selflessly put herself in harm’s way to protect property and a resident of the community. What she did demonstrated tremendous moral conviction and dedication to others. The actions she took exemplifies the unwavering commitment all emergency public safety telecommunicators have towards protecting their communities and fellow citizen whether on or off duty.

These actions embody the spirit and core values of our organization and its proper that we recognize her for such. In recognition of your actions we present you with our very first South Shore Regional Emergency Communications Center “Above & Beyond Award”.
