Fire chiefs from across Plymouth County gathered last week in Bridgewater for the Fire Chiefs’ Association of Plymouth County Legislative Brunch.
The event, held at Olde Scotland Links Golf Course, brought together more than 50 fire chiefs, state legislators, and legislative staff to discuss the issues shaping the future of the fire service in Massachusetts.
Topics included fire service funding, ambulance reimbursement reform, firefighter safety, building code proposals affecting emergency operations, and the ongoing effort to move the Office of Emergency Medical Services to the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
Brockton Fire Chief Brian Nardelli delivered the keynote address and spoke about several legislative priorities important to fire departments across the Commonwealth.
The Fire Chiefs’ Association of Plymouth County appreciates the time our legislative partners spent engaging with fire service leaders on these important public safety issues. Collaboration between state and local leaders is essential to ensuring our departments have the resources necessary to protect our communities and our firefighters.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to a productive discussion.

Emergency Preparedness: Be Ready for 72 Hours

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recommends that individuals and families be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours (three days) following a disaster. During major emergencies such as severe storms, flooding, winter weather, power outages, or other unexpected events, emergency responders may be stretched thin, utilities may be disrupted, and access to stores and services may be limited.

Having a well-stocked emergency kit ensures that you and your family can remain safe, comfortable, and self-reliant until assistance becomes available.

The attached checklist is intended to serve as a guide and starting point. It is not all-inclusive and should be customized to meet your household’s specific needs. Consider the unique requirements of children, seniors, individuals with medical conditions, and pets. Seasonal conditions and local hazards should also be taken into account.

Preparedness Tips

Store your emergency kit in an easily accessible location.

Review and update supplies at least twice a year.

Replace expired food, water, batteries, and medications.

Keep important documents in a waterproof and portable container.

Make sure all family members know where the kit is located.

Develop and practice a family communication and evacuation plan.

Preparedness is a shared responsibility. Taking simple steps today can make a significant difference in your safety and well-being during an emergency.

Please check all of your heating appliances, and ensure that the exhaust vents are clear. Especially with the significant snowstorm we experienced yesterday, snow drifts may increase totals closest to your home. Remember, carbon monoxide is colorless, tasteless, odorless.

The Hingham Fire Department is proud to announce that after 20 years, our Citizen’s Fire Academy is returning!

Visit all three Hingham Fire Station including our NEW Station 2 by the Shipyard. Learn what it takes to become a firefighter and paramedic, ride the Quint’s aerial to see the Boston City Skyline, learn how to use the “Jaws-of-Life,” and deal with common emergencies. There will also be CPR training, hands on presentations of cardiac monitoring, intubations, and much more.

Join us to learn the day to day operations of Hingham Fire Department, and become immersed in the roles and responsibilities of a firefighter and paramedic.

The Citizen’s Fire Academy is nine weeks long and is held Thursdays from 6-9pm (plus one Saturday). The Academy is to begin April 2nd. It is ideal that candidates looking to apply commit to all sessions. There will also be a formal graduation after successful completion of the program. Class size will be limited to 12 residents of The Town of Hingham and our application period is from February 6 to March 6, 2026.

🚒 OPEN HOUSE 🚒

THIS Saturday - November 1st, 10a-2p at 35 HMS Essington Dr (our new station)

We are a few days away from our open house at our NEW fire station!! We hope you join us and can’t wait to see you all!

Just a reminder: there will be several demonstrations, games, touch-a-trucks, and even a Wahlburgers food truck! Be on the lookout for a quiz (with a prize) for the kids when you get there, too!

❗️PARKING ❗️

We are looking to prioritize parking in the police lot (directly next to the police station). The MBTA lot across HMS Essington charges $2 per car on the weekends. We apologize for any inconvenience.
ENTRY shall be via the parking deck and by the police entrance. It will be handicap accessible for those who need it. Most activities will be on “our side” by our bay doors—see our previous post for a map.

We hope to see you soon!
