Hinton Public School History
Immediately after the opening of Caddo County, August 6, 1901 the homesteaders of the Hinton community, always interested in furthering the education of their children, built a small box school house on the northwest corner of the John T. In 1903 the school was moved into town and held in two buildings on main street with a Mr. White of Anadarko as teacher of the upper

grades and Miss Heffler taught the lower grades. On August 24, 1904 a site, an entire block located two blocks north of main street on Broadway was set aside for a permanent school building, during the summer of 1905 a four room, two story frame building was erected on the spot where the Family dollar now sits. It wasn't until 1911 that the board of education added the 3rd and 4th years to the high school curriculum. The first student to graduate from the four year schedule was Beulah George Vaughn. In 1936 the original building was enlarged with the help of the (WPA) and a new seven room junior high was erected. In 1946 Hinton 1st gymnasium was built and in 1951 a new elementary building was place one block west of the school grounds. Today, all of our school buildings have moved across the street from the original location. The Hinton school district has grown from the original four square mile area to the present size of 194 square miles.
