Press Release:

At approximately 11:34 a.m. on October 15, 2025, Hinton Fire Rescue was dispatched to a residential structure fire on 310th Street in rural Hinton, Iowa.

Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke coming from the C side of the residence. Firefighters initiated an offensive attack and determined the fire had originated in the basement of the structure. Crews quickly gained control and knocked down the fire before it could extend further throughout the home.

Hinton Fire Rescue was assisted on scene by the Merrill Fire Department, Le Mars Fire Rescue, Hinton Police Department, Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, and REC.

Following an investigation, it was determined that the fire originated in the basement and was caused by a candle. Fortunately, all occupants and pets safely evacuated the residence prior to our arrival.

Hinton Fire Rescue would like to thank all assisting agencies for their support and teamwork.

Thank you,

Cameron Peirce, Fire Chief

Severe storms are predicted starting tonight throughout Monday. Please prepare yourself and know if you hear me activate the tornado sirens that it is NOT a drill. If you hear them take cover immediately.

I set the sirens off at any wind over 70mph. Large hail, strong straight line winds, and tornados are possible with the upcoming storms. Stay safe!
