Memorial Day Remembrance

Today, the Hiram Police Department pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Memorial Day is more than a holiday—it is a solemn reminder of the courage, selflessness, and unwavering dedication of those who gave their lives defending the freedoms we cherish every day. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten, and their legacy lives on through the values they fought to protect.

As we gather with family and friends, let us take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of this day and pay tribute to our fallen heroes and the loved ones they left behind.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to all who have served and continue to serve our country and communities with honor and commitment.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

🚨 SCAM ALERT – FRAUDULENT “OHIO DISTRICT COURT” TEXT MESSAGE NOTICE 🚨

The Hiram Police Department was contacted by a couple of residents regarding this text message, alerting us of its existence and we would like to alert residents to a scam text message currently circulating that falsely claims to be from an “Ohio District Court” regarding an alleged unpaid traffic violation.

The message states that the recipient has an outstanding traffic fine and threatens immediate legal consequences—including:

• Arrest warrants
• Suspension of driver’s license
• Suspension of vehicle registration
• Additional court fees
• Referral to a debt collection agency

The message then urges recipients to click a suspicious link and respond to confirm receipt.

THIS IS A SCAM. DO NOT CLICK THE LINK. DO NOT RESPOND.

How to identify the scam:

*The message comes from an unknown international phone number (+63), which is not associated with any Ohio court or government agency.

*Ohio courts and legitimate government agencies do not typically notify individuals of legal matters via unsolicited text messages demanding immediate action.

*The included website link is suspicious and does not appear to be an official Ohio government domain (.gov).

*Scammers often use urgent language and threats to pressure victims into clicking malicious links or providing personal/payment information.

What you should do if you receive this message:

•Do not click any links
•Do not reply to the message
•Delete the text immediately
•Report it as spam/junk through your phone provider
•Monitor your accounts if you accidentally interacted with the message
•Report scam attempts to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at www.reportfraud.ftc.gov

Important Reminder:

If you ever receive a notice regarding a citation, court case, or government-related issue, always verify the information by contacting the court or agency directly using an official phone number or website.

Please help protect others by sharing this warning with family, friends, and neighbors—especially those who may be more vulnerable to scam attempts.

Stay alert. Stay informed. Stay safe.

Today, May 15, we honor and observe Police Officers Memorial Day.

This solemn day serves as a time for our nation to pay tribute to the local, state, and federal law enforcement officers who have served and protected our communities with unwavering courage, dedication, and selfless commitment—and to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice or have been permanently injured in the line of duty.

We ask our community to join us in honoring these men and women by wearing blue today or displaying a blue light in your home as a symbol of remembrance, gratitude, and support.

Let us never forget the brave men and women across the United States who answered the call to serve, standing watch over our communities and safeguarding the freedoms we hold dear.

Today, we remember the fallen.
We honor the injured.
We support those who continue to serve.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

National Police Week
May 10th - 16th, 2026

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, National Police Week.

National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

The spirit of this week offers honor, remembrance, and peer support, while allowing law enforcement, survivors, and citizens to gather and pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty.
